I was surprised when I plugged this micro sd card into the laptop the total storage was around 30GB less than advertised so 512GB showed up as 482GB. Turns out that’s normal and is within the acceptable manufacturer error margin.

Echoing what rev6 said here; most storage is sold now as GB, which is a base 10 counting, but files are measured in a base 2 counting (KiB, MiB, GiB, sometimes). Microsoft just hasn't switched to showing data as stored in GiB yet, because people are used to the old "GB". gbmb.org/gib…-gb

Seems like a great price. Is there anywhere that has a 1tb card for steam deck that doesn’t require a 2nd mortgage?
    ald93's avatar
If you don't mind opening a few screws a 1tb SSD is around £75.

Lovely. Just paid £45 quid for a 512gb Sandisk Extreme two days ago for my new RG405M handheld.

Are MyMemory still offering lower prices by doing something dodgy with VAT and the Channel Islands or have they stopped that now? This bothers me when buying for business and not being able to reclaim VAT as it’s not like-for-like.
    dré.'s avatar
yes, I've never managed to get a VAT invoice from them.

Ordered one. Cheaper than where I was looking and will need one probably soon. Heat!! (edited)

If you can hold off, the price will drop below this in the next 24-48 hours on amazon, it's already dropped £2.85 in the last 28 days.

Bought one for my new Shanling mp3 play and was very disappointed with write speeds putting all my music and audio books onto it took far longer than when I did it before with previous sd micro :/
    rev6's avatar
What was the speed? From my usage write speed averaged 68MBps. More than acceptable
That was with a capable USB 3.0 reader. (edited)

I've got this card getting around 90MBps. It's not NVE SSD speeds but fast enough for recording 4K video. Maybe an issue with the Shanling mp3 play SD interface but who knows.
