A little expensive for this model imo, but it is durable and performs well. You can get cheaper if you are willing to look wider, though Stock Must Go quite good for customer service in my experience.

Well, I don't agree at this point. Not sure where you saw a lower price/better value...

As in the other thread I think, this seller has caused headaches for people on HUKD (see other threads) and the L480 is a lesser-spec laptop, the Dell Latitude 7490 is more like a Lenovo ThinkPad T480 as its equal. So personal preference at the end of the day. On the flip-side, I've had good experiences with Stock-Must-Go.

You have a good budget. I expected you to say £300 tbh

You can find many decent laptops at CEX. Although at the moment their stock is a little bit dry
    This is a solid example

This is a good one but you might need to add another 8gb ram stick. They sell it for £10

Very reasonable spec for the price IMO.

These are durable & reliable for their intended purpose Ideal for students or home workers without the need to spend mega money on a fancy macbook.

Hmm well the reason some people have to buy a Macbook is because the software they have to use or have to learn is only available on macOS, so for them there isn't another option.

Also if you have the budget for a Macbook then you have the budget also for a much better Windows machine, so Macbooks shouldn't even be discussed as comparable or considerable on this deal. (edited)

Tried buying it but SMG changed their shipping policy now charging £13 for NI

A good price, but I'm a bit wary this website wanted to send me browser notifications as soon as I opened it, with no warning- I associate that with very dodgy websites normally.

Very silly question so forgive me but if I buy the 16gb Ram version of this would I be able to play GTA 5 on it?

    No

I sold one a few years ago on eBay. It was pretty good laptop. Had small crack on a case, but it didn't affect the usage.

How long will the battery last? Thanks

Do these come installed with everything my son would need for homework. Microsoft apps and a browser are sufficient, just need something basic to replace his chromebook

If he's fine with using an online office suite from Microsoft or Google, yes. It'll have about as much ready to use as an out-of-the-box Chromebook, and then some. Office is only free to use online, but there are ways to get it legally for free. Or, you can buy one of the deals for it with an antivirus, which means you can upgrade 12 months to 15. Those deals come up fairly regularly.

Issues with battery expansion and failure of the fan assembly are very common on this model, not expensive to fix but happens a lot.

i have had this laptop for years and its still going strong however the battery is shot - lasts less than an hour so this might be something to bear in mind when buying a laptop this old. Third party batteries are on Amazon for £40 but no idea if they are as good as the original.
    Rumcajs_9's avatar
About a year ago, I found an original Dell battery (the larger one) for I think 35 on eBay with 95% life. The old one was still alright after 3 years but had only 60% life left. Changing the battery was dead simple and I got back 9-10hrs.

Ordered the 512gb version Monday morning and turned up today just over 24hrs later happy with laptop just battery not holding much charge but that's easily sorted.
    Raj_546's avatar
Can you please suggest how did you fix the battery? Even I have ordered the same, having the battery charge issue. Did you replace it with the new original battery, if so can i have the link please?
