I grabbed one of these a few months back, bought a cheap ticket that was refundable, once the railcard activated I requested, and received, a refund for the train ticket and railcard stayed fully active

Sorry to ask but can anyone explain how these work or who they benefit the most?
See loads of deals but not sure if it's worth it for an occasional weekend train ride
Bippity
Just look up how much the ticket to said destination is without one and compare? That's how I'd do it anyway

My question, if anyone can answer, is: What is the practical difference between a 1 year 16-17 Saver RailCard and the 1 year 16-25 Railcard - for a 16 year old please? ALSO: once purchased from a particular retailer, are they accepted by all train ticket retailers? TIA
tubster76
16-17 is better, 50 per cent discount not 33 per cent. Yes card will work universally once purchased.

I've just bought a railcard but paid extra for the plastic version. My son was on a train a few weeks ago and couldn't get the app open on his phone to show the rail card, he had a screenshot but she wouldn't accept that. Got a £50 fine. Just something to watch out for.

Under NCoT he should be able to claim a refund the first time this happens in a 12m period

Just had a look as I need to get a ticket to London in December. Doesn't appear to be an adult single person railcard? Am I missing something?

Just to be clear am I able to use the 12 month railcard when booking online with all companies?, ie LNER, trainline etc??
ledigi
Yes, just show the digital rail card when asked by the ticket inspector
I actually usually just book with the train companies directly, or with the RailUKForum ticket site .. none of these charge any booking fee. Don't forget all train companies can sell rail tickets for any company, not just their own

I used that offer. Though it did occur to me, what happens if:
- The Trainline goes bust. - Their app is no longer supported on my phone
How do you prove that you have that railcard?

I bought a rail card about 3 years ago as I was going from Southampton Central to Portsmouth Harbour as I was going to Gunwharf Quays about once a month for the outlet shops like Nike & Adidas….I told the advisor on the phone what I wanted to use it for and he said I would make a good saving on each trip….so I paid the £30 for my rail card…..the following week I went back to the station 🚉 to purchase my first ticket using the rail card to go to gunwharf quay with my son for the day. Upon showing the guy ( ironically it was the same guy who had sold me the rail card) at the counter my rail card he then informed me that I wouldn’t receive any discount on my ticket whatsoever as the journey time was too short….(shock) ….I then promptly told this Male Karen ( I didn’t know what the male version of a Karen was called… )…..that he was the Numpty that advised and sold this stupid pass and that as it was no use to me he could give me a refund…..but like a typical Jobsworth Karen he just started reading me the rules…..:| …..So my question now is what is the best rail card for me to purchase that would give me a discount on the journey I’ve stated….and which card do I buy as I’m 49. Railcards are valid Southampton Central to Portsmouth Harbour provided you are travelling at the times permitted by the Railcard (off peak).

What happens if you have a Railcard, but you decide to catch a later train? Or what about if the train you paid for cancels, so you have to catch the next train?
waseem007

Thank you, just purchased this. The Trip.com app isn't too bad actually. Took me a few mins how to figure out how to get my railcard on there but all good now
