Dishwasher installation from online merchant

Hello everyone,

I am looking to purchase an integrated dishwasher from online seller like Argos, Currys etc with installation included.

I am in a new built apartment. I did not opt for a dishwasher when I purchased the apartment so the builder put a normal kitchen cabinet in the designated dishwasher area right next to kitchen sink.

My question is will the installer from any of these companies will be able to remove the kitchen cabinet as part of installation or do I have to get a carpenter first? Some of them are charging £125 for installation which seems a lot so surely they should be able to do this for me?

Their install is based on like for like, so this won't work. You will be better off paying for someone to do the install, including the cabinet work.

    Exactly that.

Measure the cupboard to ensure it's actually going to be viable. They might have installed a cupboard but there's numerous size of cupboards for installing. If it's the right size at 600mm roughly it should be fine for a lot of dishwashers.

Also worth figuring about if the original cupboard door can be used for the dishwasher front, have you had handles installed? if you have you might need a new door for the dishwasher as they'll need to be in a different place for opening the dishwasher.

They're not that hard to install, they tend to come with a template for setting the catches on the back of the door for securing to the front, there's only a few screws to put from the inside of the dishwasher into the door and a lot of them you can adjust both front and back legs from the front.

Even getting the cabinet out it's probably not going to be that hard. Chances are it's secured either side to the next cabinets with screws through so they'll need unscrewing, any screws upwards into the worktop and if it's tight to drag out due to height screw the legs on the bottom upwards to lower it slightly to give room to move it out. (Obviously all this after removing the plinth which will still be fine to put back after the dishwasher is installed)

If you can actually get the cupboard out and there is definately access for the water, drainage and electric you're pretty much to the point where a normal install is fine. They would need to attach the door anyway. (edited)

You will need to look at the installation T&C. Although I don't think any of the normal suppliers class this as an 'install'. Install is usually it is to a point that has power & water & drainage. It's a really simple thing and they charge a lot to do it.

You don't need a carpenter to remove a cabinet. Is it something you can do yourself? The sink will have water/drainage nearby so not a huge job in that respect, but what is there for power?

Yes that is what I am trying to find out in T&C . But some of them are really vague with it.

I am really bad with diy. But I guess I can have a look at youtube to learn how to remove a cabinet.
There should be a power socket behind the cabinet as this cabinet is designated for dishwasher. In worse case scenario there is socket right above the cabinet as well.

Definitely not counting as part of 'installation' be warned! Ring customer service after U decide who U going with (argos currys etc).

That will be extra charge and they will make money on you 😁.

If You bad with DIY , ring a mate that is able to do it for you and learn from him if that's not an option, YouTube or 'handyman' to do it for you, still cheaper than currys argos etc as an extra charge

Thanks a lot guys. This is why I love HDUK.

I am going to list a job on mybuilder and find out how much I get quoted.

I use checkatrade as you can read reviews on the trader. I find there are too many cowboys on mybuilder these days.

Also just a reminder unlike free standing dishwashers inbuilt ones with an integrated door ten to sit hard up against the wall at the back.

I don’t think any of their delivery guys would remove and old integrated and fit a new, doubt they’d have the tools required.

When my cooker was delivered by Currys, it came without a hose and they refused to remove the hose from the old and fit it to the new.

Any suggestions for a good price dishwasher under £400? I have come across the one below:

    markselectrical.co.uk/hv6…her

For the price and features nothing else come close. But I am not sure if Hisense is a good brand for dishwasher
