Aer lingus flight voucher £3700

Hi all,

I have some flight vouchers given to me by aer lingus instead of refund (flights from UK to US during covid went ahead but only for those returning etc).

Due to a bereavement since then, I'll no longer be going stateside and the locations aer lingus travel to are no good to me.

Anyone know how I could get my money back? These are valid till May 2025 so quite some time left.

Or would it be best to sell? If so, how or which platform...? FYI have added to gumtree but wondered if there is any better place or method to sell.

Thank you for reading, and for any comments.

Contact Kate Morley on the Daily Telegraph as a 'consumer champion' - the website will give you all the details that you need to email her and given the circumstances she will probably get you a much better outcome.

I think in view of your circumstances (bereavement) I would give the airline another go on a refund. Be humble and state your case clearly, ask nicely and keep your fingers crossed. You have nothing to lose.

I will give them another go in the morning and report back with any updates. Thank you for the encouragement

    Are they transferable?

I think so. I had some iberia covid cancelled tickets and was able to sell on.

I sold within family and friends network.

Try calling Daniel Barnett this Fri or Sat at 9pm on LBC (available nationally).

Have all the details ready in clear fashion...

    - Timeline
    - What happened
    - What was offered
    - What you took
    - What you want

    Good luck.

Just don't give up re this. And also when you speak to the airline, escalate it through internal complaints procedure.

Also regardless of what they say, they'll be regulated by the EU which have decent consumer laws similar/same as UK so worth getting your head around those rights' etc.

Great idea not thought of this. Thank you for letting me know about the regulations. Will need to read up some more.

It would be difficult to sell these on. Could you attempt to get a monetary value?

So can the vouchers be used for any aer lingus flights to any destination im guessing ?
3700 seems a lot for just the flights, i assume it was for multiple people

Yes that's correct, 5 of us were booked to go. The vouchers can be used against any flights only with aer lingus... but not for any hotels or packages they have. Yes of course, they can be used against any destinations they have available. We just don't like the destinations and will not be going to the states ever again. Just wanting advice on best place to maybe advertise. I'm a bit sceptical of using ebay as some other forums have mentioned some buyers may use refund etc and get the vouchers for free. Not sure how this would be possible but there seemed to be a few others mentioning the same caution.
