I lost my mind and bought one of these a few months ago. After using it for 2 weeks solid, I sold it on ebay (didn't lose too much). There's just no justifiable reason to buy this over a normal DualSense. And the battery life is woeful. Looks and feels great and the case it comes in is pretty cool but at the price, it's nonsense. Just my two cents.

If you aren't into shooting games then i wouldnt disagree, but for fps games the improvement is noticeable in my gameplay over a regular controller.
  2. jco83's avatar
smaller battery than the regular DualSense (edited)
    Quasso's avatar
    That’s ridiculous
  3. AndrewWaddin-33961.57250's avatar
Does these still suffer from stick drift?
    Lyces88's avatar
Like every controller with the same technology it may upon use, however the joysticks can be replaced by yourself and bought from the official sony store relatively cheap without having to replace/repair the while controller.
  4. zenitsu's avatar
I have one of these and would not recommend it to anyone unless you are a true tryhard gamer at CoD (for the paddles). Would’ve rather saved my money and been able to buy 3 controllers instead
    Lyces88's avatar
What about avoiding claw grip on many 3rd person games?

    Dropping fast, heat.
    jonneyt's avatar
Who would have predicted that £200 for a controller was an unsustainable price point?

Recommend people fit their own Rise4 paddle kit by eXtreme Rate. Did it myself recently can normally get the kit for £30/£40 + a standard PS5 controller so you’re basically half the price of this and it’s not too difficult
    mephestic's avatar
Yeah this is what I did - for anyone reading - google the extremerate paddles and get the 4 button one - just make sure you pick the right version following the instructions on joypad model.

The instructions are easy to follow - have never done it and just followed the Youtube video. The tactile feel on them is great with a satisfying click I found. Cleverly made I think.
I was reluctant of opening my controller but got sick of playing the ps4 version of apex legends on my ps5 using the old paddles on my ps4 controller. I thought screw it im gonna risk but it was really easy and now tempted to get the metal buttons for my second controller.
I soldered the two points for the stick push buttons which was surprisingly easier than I thought.
I just refused to pay this price for a controller, I just found it completely unreasonable that we are talking console territory. Could buy a new nintendo switch (almost) for this RRP price. (edited)
  8. jaygordz's avatar
Weaker battery and still nearly triple the price of a standard controller. No thanks.
  9. bigton3000's avatar
Absolutely terrible company, I had my pre-order canceled for cod by them, after trying to update my payment method that they originally didn't accept which they did to begin with. Customer service shocking and no one knows what they are doing. Wouldn't buy anything of them again they are just a vacuum for cash.
    mrcheesegrabber's avatar
Lost my parcel, then sent one really late and it was damaged! Terrible terrible company! Never gonna order anything from them.

"Ok kids so we wont be able to turn on the central heating for a month, but look what dad bought!!"
    HellRazer's avatar
You joke... This is generally what people do. Then complain about not having money for the heating and or food.
  11. james.pondBzo's avatar
Still overpriced. I have 2 of them. Thinking about it, that was a poor decision by me.
  12. InfoAddict's avatar
Does anybody know if the build quality of this controller and the buttons and sticks and triggers are better than the normal DualSense? I wouldn't mind paying a premium for that, but if it's just the customisable modular nature that you are paying for, that's a rip off.
    GOODSTUFF's avatar
it actually worse as it has the same plastic build as regular dualsense but worse battery life. But yh comes with the pro modular customisations
  13. Cm_Down's avatar
Almost at my £20 biting point
  14. Urchoice's avatar
Bit steep that ! Does it come with a free console ??
    Diabolik88's avatar
    It does actually, this one

I ordered a kit on Amazon to add 2 rear fully remappable metal click pads for £28. Albeit, also bought a soldering kit for £13 to do the full install.

Working flawlessly - albeit I'm rarely on my PS5
  17. R2Dom2's avatar
Grr. Drift just started on my PS5 controller. Unlike Nintendo who have fixed drift on both my kids out of warranty units, it's a nah, not interested from Sony. OK, so I'll repair it myself then - turns out that's not possible either! Whilst you can take the unit apart and desolder the sticks, the replacement sticks need calibration using software that Sony won't let you use. So you can install new sticks and still have drift.
Hopefully next generations of controllers will be more servicable - like this one I guess. At least after 500,000 cycles you can swap it out. Sony don't even allow you to increase the deadzone of the stick on the console which would help mitigate. Grr.
    Heated though, decent discount.
    mossmanfly's avatar
Hopefully, they all start using Hall Effect controllers, and in that way, you shouldn't get any stick drift at all.

So, really, this and Elite Series 2 should probably both use Hall Effect already considering the price of them both.
  18. whatnot86's avatar
Bought this recently direct from playstation and i dont regret it one bit, especially for cod etc.

The battery life is fine unless you are going to play 6 hours straight, and if you do, the wire is long enough anyway, which also reduces input lag.
    jco83's avatar
How long in your experience does the battery last
  19. BadGoy's avatar
Why in the world would anyone buy this?
    NeverBagHolding's avatar
I came to check out the comments and see what I was exactly missing. £50+< no thank you
  20. HotRodTrotter's avatar
No doubt a good deal but £170 for a controller is still bonkers IMO. Obviously I get why it's better than the standard one but still....it's just a controller. To each their own, I guess.
    sulyl's avatar
I find the value in my Xbox elite controller, however I paid 120 for that. Considering the elite controller 2 is as reliable as a bar of chocolate, when my controller dies I would consider this one as a replacement for it. It’s expensive for sure, but if it’s anything like the Xbox elite controller it will make the standard controller feel like a toy. I only really find use in it for racing games as you can use the paddles at the back for shifters, but it’s so much more fun for me to use that than to play without it that it makes a controller with paddles worth getting over a standard one for me.
  21. Citizenkane345's avatar
Good, but will wait for black friday. £149 sounds a bit better to me!
    med.trabelsi's avatar
Do you reckon it would be that price, should i hold off?
  22. Sherlock123's avatar
I won't spend half price off the ps5 just for the pad lol
  23. codnan's avatar
Tbh I am pretty unhappy with how well duel sense controllers last . I have got through 4 controllers in under 2 years and normally a PS4 controller lasted me about 3/4 years . So there is no chance I would pay this for a controller that might last 3/4 months of gentle play .
    mossmanfly's avatar
What are you doing with them?

My launch day controller is still going 3 years later, and it's my only controller. No stick drift, no issues. Apart from a bit of wear on the tops of the thumbsticks, it's practical brand new.
  24. BrummyOzil_'s avatar
i have been a dualshock / playstation user for the best part of 20 years, but there is no way on gods green earth i am paying £150-£200 for a controller. I don't care how many parts i can replace in the controller, anything over £100 is daylight robbery for any gaming controller unless its made of 9ct gold .
Along with the PS VR and PS5 , Sony have kept me priced me out of their market (which is fine since i play PC gaming now) .. probably 1000's like me too who would purchase these products if they were reasonably priced for the avergae consumer.
£99 would be my biting point for this controller. It will probably never happen, but that just means i will never buy the product 🤷‍♂️
  25. mephestic's avatar
Don't bother. The battery life is worse than stock and no one should be paying these prices for controllers. I got the extremerate one couple weeks back and it's brilliant. Very easy to install using the YouTube video and pausing, following step by step. I soldered the 2 points as recommended for the push stick buttons which was easy to do but isn't necessary. I got the plastic buttons but thinking about getting the metal ones next for my other joypad.
Was about £35 I think off Amazon and feel, functionality works great. I'd recommend that instead (edited)
  26. JamesDealHunter1's avatar
Got to be sub 130 on Black Friday if there's a decent deal offered. Holding out..
    Brad_Shaw's avatar
It won’t be sub 130 on black Friday though, this deal price won’t last until black friday so it will be back to full price again and the black Friday deal won’t be much better than this price
  27. MrAkagi's avatar
Somehow companies convinced some gamers that playing 4-5x for a controller is good value.
    SuperHardCousin's avatar
SCUF have been doing it for 15 years (edited)
  28. speedbird747's avatar
Well hopefully thumb sticks last on this as my standard dual sense ps5 controllers have lots of issues after some time of continual use - and the rubber covering eventually breaks off too
    Scott_Hughes's avatar
You can replace the sticks on this easy and cheap
  29. TomEames's avatar
    Still about £69.99 overpriced….
    strawhat's avatar
    Even that's being generous
  30. pfagan10's avatar
Embarrassing battery life apparently. About £100 overpriced even at this point.
    Porsche_did_911's avatar
This isn't a personal attack on anyone here but I keep reading comments slating the battery life, even though it's advertised as 5-6 hours depending on how demanding the game is on the haptics.

That seems plentiful for a single session in-between charges to me, is that an unpopular opinion or are there other "embarrassing" performance issues?
  31. J.M.'s avatar
MS has the good sense to add in a battery that would last nearly 40hrs with the Series 2 Elite Controller......however for this price batteries should be replaceable. There is no excuse for this given the price they're asking for.

Because of the haptics.....third party PS5 controllers aren't able to vibrate or use the rumble feature in PS5 games.....so they've completely monopolised the market in this respect. As this is a premium controller it should come with Hall Effect sticks.....Gamesir are doing the G7 SE for Xbox with that feature on the anologue sticks and triggers for £50.....Sony are clearly milking it this gen.
    GOODSTUFF's avatar
their response to stick drift is the ability to replace the stick modules completely and buy them separately lol. Better than nothing atleast
  32. Greg.'s avatar
How tf is a £169 controller the 2nd hottest deal today and on 1000 degrees?
    markyo007's avatar
    It’s just the HUKDs way
  33. Diabolik88's avatar
I've got a 10% discount code for EE Store and then they are also on CS so that's another 10% in cashback too but even at 137 quid I don't think I can justify getting it
    P-7's avatar
Would you be able to share the 10% code please, I want to purchase but it’s still too much!
  34. maniac618's avatar
Is this a console or a single controller what the actual? Ridiculous price even discounted lol
    jco83's avatar
it's a similar type of thing to the Xbox "Elite" controller
  35. DonkeyKonk's avatar
    BrummyOzil_'s avatar
i got one of these to use for SWOS a couple of weeks back, classic
  36. Dannyefcfan1's avatar
I would buy this if the battery was not a joke.
  37. aLV426's avatar
...and there was me thinking the Xbox Elite controller was stupid expensive!
    gazer's avatar
and xbox elite 2 comes with a charger in the case instead of using a cable on controller and it cost less
  38. Shane17's avatar
It’s a good price drop, but still too much for me

Happy to hold off see what happens BF
  39. FLIPENDO's avatar
Based on people's experience I recommend getting a battery replacement off amazon for around £20
    InfoAddict's avatar
OEMs are so stingy with battery life.
  40. lucas.chatterton's avatar
Still can never justify the price point they’re asking for, with an extra couple of buttons and triggers. Ridiculous Sony!
