    Overpriced? Which bit?

Deira is the worst/cheapest area in Dubai for a reason. Would avoid unless you want to be surrounded by non locals and non tourists.

If I have to live in Dubai, I will choose Deira. That's where life is, I mean people, food, you can go around and its affordable. Again every one has opinions and have different likes. If you are from a royal family and dont want to be surrounded by asian faces, middle income earning people and working class around, then may be "yes" - this may not be the place for you.

Very hot in may, high 30s. This is why it's always cheap to go there at this time of year.

That is a cheap price though 🥵

Why would anyone want to stay in Deira... Hardly the fancy, lively part of Dubai...

I stayed in this place 5 years ago, it was very tired. As others have said, Deira is not very central or the Dubai people think of.

I stayed in Deira for January. I stayed at Al Bandar Rotana. People are making it sound like you’ll be going to an alleyway and you’ll get mugged lol. It’s still a nice area to stay in and travel to the city centre is around 20-30 mins drive, which isn’t too bad. You can also take the marina to the old souk which isn’t too far away, so you can experience both sides of Dubai. (edited)

Wont it be high heat in May in Dubai? Never been there so asking if its a good time to visit Dubai in May?
    Maethrillian's avatar
Yes, 35-40. Temperatures are only really bearable during the UK winter months.

OK deal - Deira is indeed the old part, and not exactly even in a great part of Deira. But if you want a bit of old charm, this is fine... can travel to beaches and the more... luxurious... parts easily on the metro.

You can buy really cheap booze from the off licence in Deira.

Flight has only 1 hour of layover. Will that be enough? Anyone used Royal Jordanian flight earlier?

Don't forget it is Ramadan. It is quieter and many restaurants are not opened until fasting is over. Food courts are screened off and one can eat there during the day.

    Not in May

Just came back from Dubai. Stayed in downtown near the mall. Pricey but worth the experience, cleanliness and safety. Enjoyed eating out however Is abit pricey. But we ate out once a day.

When I went 15 years ago I stayed in Deira from what I remember back then it's where all the workers from Asia stayed. Not sure if it's the same. But the cab journeys would be a abit more expensive (very cheap compared to UK) to get to downtown /the mall and all the tourists parts.
