Should be noted that this is the non descript M2PV-C3 model
whereas the other model is NVMe+SATA 10Gbps

which would obviously suggest the item this deal is based on is not the 10bps

Isn't that because the other one (NVMe+SATA) is both NVMe and SATA compatible where as the one in this deal is NVMe only, but this one still reaches the 10Gbps. Orico's website for M2PV-C3 states it uses the Realtek RTL 9210 which is 10Gbps.

Not to be confused with a cheap "no name" version. I have one of these, works flawlessly, very quick but does get warm. I use it as an external drive connected to a work machine so used most days fairly intensively. This is a good price for this item.

Orico are basically cheap crap, but with a brand name on it. Their enclosures usually have the same chipset/controller as unbranded stuff, and I've had theirs die for no reason before too. They're cheap for a reason. If you want something more likely to stand the test of time, Sabrent do good stuff.

Excellent deal. I have one of these already and it is one of the better enclosures.

    Orico or Sabrent?

(Lowest price now, and I have a 10% code to redeem.) (edited)

The Sabrent is slightly better designed and completely toolless.

The Sabrent uses the RTL9120B chipset (which supports NVMe and SATA M.2 drives), whereas the Orico uses the RTL9120 chipset (which only supports NVMe M.2 drives).

Both should have very similar read/write speeds, so it's really down to if you think it's worth the extra for the slightly better design, or need support for SATA M.2 drives.

If you plan to swap the NVMe in use regularly, the Sabrent will make life slightly easier.

Not getting into it deeply but I wish descriptions had to be legally accurate spec wise USBC 3.2 Gen 2 is 10gbs and 3.2 Gen 2 version 2 is 20gbs by the USBC spec standard
As I found out after buying a 20gbs drive that'll only get 10gbs through any of my laptops, thunderbolt 4 included (10gbs by spec using USBC frives) except my auros 15pd which has USB 4 i was surprised to find out

    "3.2 Gen 2" is 10 Gbps. "3.2 Gen 2x2" is 20 Gbps.

It's understandable that people would get confused and think it's simply Gen 2 that is 20 Gbps when it's not though.

The reason it's called Gen 2x2 is because it uses 2x 10 Gbps lanes, giving you the total of 20 Gbps. USB naming has been pretty ridiculous for a while though. (edited)

    10Gbps obviously isn't 1GB in one second.
So that's likely deliberate on their part and just worth bearing in mind and checking (edited)
    lewishampson's avatar
    Isn't 10Gbps 1.25GB/s? So more than the 1GB they're claiming?

Works well so far, the rubber plug to hold the SSD down is a bit of a pain to get in though.
