    For those that may still struggle with something like this or may prefer not having to open manually I would suggest looking into electric jar openers, mine has made things so much simpler.
    (believe it or not, I'm not an OAP, am physically strong yet due to both rheumatoid and osteoarthritis really struggle to open jars and even packets with my hands!)

    It's usually the vacuum seal that simply needs breaking.
    Hold a spoon in one hand and the jar firmly in the other.Nestle the spoon in the crack between the lid and the glass. Push up and back. Press up with the spoon to loosen the lid. Let go of the spoon and twist the lid off.

    Doesn't always work, just last night I couldn't get a metal lid off a bottle (not jar but similar situation) as I couldn't get a spoon or even a knife inbetween. Had to stab the lid to make a hole!
    Plus whilst that method usually works, not everyone has great dexterity in their fingers, it's not just about strength.

    I bought this exact set a few years ago. The big lever snapped in half within the first few uses. The only useful part is the silicone sheet which does give a much better grip for opening jars (needed it following a fractured wrist). I’d recommend just the sheet if you can get it for £1!

    Yes it's a well known fact that as people age they grow stronger and their dexterity improves and obviously arthritis is simply made up!
