I'm torn between this offer @ £33 with Gig1 (volt) vs CityFibre via Vodafone @ £31 for 910mb. Both with same cashback and 18m contract. At the moment the only advantage for Virgin is that I don't want to have another box installed on my external wall by CityFibre but then Virgin's CS is an absolute joke (edited)

Vodafone all day long, lower latency and better service (edited)

yeah it was posted on here a year or so ago to apply. So i did and got one. Upgraded from hub 3, wifi lots better now.

Don’t go with Virgin, their Customer Service is soooo rubbish, I spent hours of my time trying to fix mistakes and problems they caused themselves, they have lied, also not even listening to what the customer is saying, and also looking at me as I am at fault, when it’s them, they are stupid

Very good price IMO. I left VM for an independent fibre to the home provider, currently paying £25 for 1gig up/down. If you can manage to get the cashback and credit, it's really good.

I would say before you jump at this offer, check your local smaller fibre providers, UK gov gigabit fibre rollout is covering over 77% of properties now (sept 2023), so there is a good chance your local town/city has a full fiber provider lurking.

With a little luck, the smaller gigabit providers will pull the prices down on the likes of Virgin and BT, rather than get gobbled up in mergers.

I would love some competition in my area. The 18 month contract dance is annoying with Virgin. Unfortunately it's either Virgin Media if I want fibre or 10mbps AT BEST from any other provider.

ah, i guess us existing customers will have to subsidize!

Fairly common practice. The companies hope existing customers just roll on to the “full price” monthly cost end of contract.

I would avoid virgin too...the CS is appalling. I signed up for phone and BB but because I didn't have the phone I was no longer eligible so their system automatically charged me full price. I then had to contact CS every month of the contract to get a £30 refund. Nightmare!

Had this last year and glad I moved away from Virgin. I was using volt to get the 1gb speeds and they kept charging me 60/70 per month and I had to constantly speak to them to get it back.

Gets tiresome after repeating myself every month for the last 5/6 months!

Virgin is pants go with a Cityfibre provider if you can

Always phone or get on the customer online chat to haggle. I'm on their M100 (fast enough for me) and I got it for £20 a month with volt.

I said to the guy, I don't need the volt add on (which is billed separately on a different direct debit) and he said well just cancel that and keep the broadband.

So I cancelled the volt add-on within 14 days and now only get charged the £15 for the M100 package.

Thought that might be useful for someone.

    GREAT price!

Just to confirm, you can sign up for an O2 SIM, cancel it and keep the volt benefit?

Just signed up for this and already happy with the price (£30.50 per month, assuming the cashback fails and including a potential 8.8% increase for the final 6 months) but would be happy to get Gig1 at this price.

Normally once Volt gets applied, it stays for the duration of contract.
    So I would say Yes.

Go with this or Vodafone ?

Damn you virgin for charging me £26 a month for m125

I know their CS is a PITA, but you need to get on the blower and haggle it out, I'm currently on their 500 for around the same price, currently £24 with an inflation price rise coming in April, just to give you some sort of yard stick of where to aim. Good luck.

If you are already on this package are you out of luck?
    KodaBear's avatar
Yes unless you cancel and have another adult living in the house sign up as a new customer.

Alternatively haggle with outbound retentions. You can generally get a lower monthly price than this with them, but you won't get the cashback or anything.
  16. aLV426's avatar
How long do I need to wait after cancelling my existing contract before I would be considered a "new customer"?
    KodaBear's avatar
Officially 90 days. Unofficially you generally get away with it once your equipment is returned and your final bill has been received and paid.

However another adult living at your house can sign up to go live on the same day you disconnect and get a new customer offer that way.

Definitely haggle with outbound retentions first though. You'll not get cashback but can definitely get this package for a cheaper monthly price as an existing customer if you push them.

How to get the fixed price with VM? They do increase the price in every April. Besides of it the price is also going up at the end of the contract. What a steal. (edited)
    StaceyQ's avatar
It's only fixed until next April 25 - the April 24 increase has passed.

Does anyone know virgin 14 days cooling off period valid from dateof order or install ? (edited)
    captainbeaky's avatar
    14 days from either:
    i) the day after the delivery of the equipment;
(ii) the service start date; or
(iii) the day you receive your contract.

    Whichever is the latest.
