Here are some pictures of a genuine one you should compare it with the one you receive from Ali express

Ordered 2 of these drives from this seller back in November, both tested fine, received within 10 days
    moonspook's avatar
Completely misread that as "tasted," and wondered what you were doing with your drives :P

Why it is so short, when other M.2 are long? Do they still fit to replace long ones or do i need to buy long ones only? Thanks
    USERTEMP's avatar
M.2 SSD comes in several lengths. This is a 2230 meaning its 30mm long. Typical long type is 2280. That's 80mm.
Some devices have screw holes for various sizes some only support one type. If your device supports 2280 you will find better deals at that common form factor.

You never know what you're going to get with AliExpress. A lot of blackmarket goods on there...

Pay by credit card. You'll be fine. I've done a few charge backs because of faulty stuff

I’m a techie. I order loads from china. I just cannot bring myself to order an SSD, that I would intend to use as my primary disk….

    Nice price, but I can’t do it…
    GB99's avatar
Do you mean an SSD ordered from China or made in China? (edited)
  6. mchcreations's avatar
Bargain, I paid nearly double May last year. That and a small 2230 enclosure and you get a mighty USB SSD
    Unrecogniseduser's avatar
Bargain as long as it’s genuine. I need a 4TB already for my steam deck as I’m nearly all out on the 2TB one

Have ordered 2 from a different seller and it's been dispatched. Will be putting in my Ally and Flow z13 to upgrade.

Can anyone recommend a free OS drive cloning software
    USERTEMP's avatar
Did my steam deck with Macrium Reflect.

Can't be legit at this price, surely?
    Adam458's avatar
I doubt they're actual Western Digital, if they're probably refurbished stock.

"Global SSD top store" and Aliexpress....I'll pass .

I'd suggest doing a 100% capacity format from scratch - not just visible partitions - to eliminate the chance of something hidden and verify the true capacity, as well as a performance test to check it's in line with a legitimate drive. And IIRC you can verify Western Digital serial numbers on their site somewhere as well. The SMART data will tell you how much it's been used and the condition.

In any case, I checked mine very thoroughly when I bought from AliExpress - different seller probably - and it appeared absoutely legitimate. For whatever reason their site is awash with these Western Digital drives. (edited)

    Good one

Looks like if ordering from an account with previous orders the price is around 5 quid higher.

Ordered one for my Steam Deck. Hot.

Been looking out for a 1GB drive, can't really turn a 2GB one down, at this price. Birthday present bought. Thanks OP
    AKG86's avatar
Not get a lot on your drive if you're only looking for a 1GB (edited)

    Back to normal price

If the photo on the website is to be believed it's over a year old so probably refurb stock.
The "We could not tell why some worked and some did not in an SP8" might back that up.

    *edit*

Some of the serial photos look shady, but I think they just used stock photos. Some 'user' photos seem recent (August 2023 Manufacturing dates).

The part where I thought the drives were only 1Tb... that's just the nand size, so there will be two on the chip. Basically ignore what I said, I've no idea if it's shady or not. (edited)

    I've paid £80.20.

scam, I have check taobao and JD, in china it is sold over 850yuan, ~93
    lukaszw's avatar
    Probably. Will see.

The data about the seller looks alright. Over 93% satisfied customers. 6000+ items sold in 180 days. (edited)

These used to be around £125 last year, prices have dropped significantly.

Could be had for 90 95 around November

I ordered yesterday for £86 with fee free card paid in $$ but it includes vat too. Does this price include taxes?
  21. karlic's avatar
Was eyeing this for some time, but for this price-stupid not to take

This price includes everything- taxes and postage. I paid exactly this-I am in UK (edited)
  22. ziiggy's avatar
Is there any way to check if these drives are fake?
    powerbrick's avatar
Use nvme-cli with WDC plugin and run some vendor specific commands.
  23. iby2012's avatar
Tempted. Would be great if I could get hold of a surface pro 7+ to put this in then.

Or something else. Crazy that the xbox version is £250+
  24. JaMo's avatar
I paid £95 for this a few months ago from this seller. No issues whatsoever, so at this price its a steal!
  25. burns94's avatar
Thanks ordered for my oled, hopefully don't mess it up.
  26. hihihehe's avatar
Bought one some time last year for Steam deck. Works perfectly
  27. jay.3's avatar
No way people are ordering storage from AliExpress… that’s one thing I would not order from China. Too many fakes, too risky.

    Can’t order now

I got mine delivered today , haven't tested it yet had no time but seems legit 2tb
  31. ziiggy's avatar
Back in stock for a few pounds cheaper. Coming up at £73.21 if paying in USD and converting to pounds or £74.94 if simply paying in pounds
    TTT6's avatar
Is that your first time buying this? I don't see that
  32. plewis00's avatar
This seems outrageously cheap for a 2230 especially, these are usually twice the price, great find if all ok - presumably ideal for the usual handhelds and Surface devices?
  33. iby2012's avatar
With the code it's £80 instead of £78? Code doesn't work in USD so no cheaper there.

Buy 2, to potentially avoid the VAT....
    blake4100's avatar
    it’s only 1 per transaction
  34. scrappysphinx's avatar
I know I'm a week or so late but code doesn't seem to work for me. Gives me an error and total comes in at around £121
