It's technically not free. The egg should scan at 99p. However the coupon value is 1p. So it effectively takes off 98p. Charging you 1p.

I went to the self scans, there's a thing in the middle of the screen to say you enter the item number, put the code in and it says free egg. Didn't even scan the egg just clicked pay, got my receipt and walked out
I’m not on the 3 network my friend. Did work in their headquarters in Maidenhead many years ago.- As the OP hasn't included this information, it is redeemable at WH Smith

The shop assistant made me go the manned till to put my egg through, she just tapped away on the till and then handed me the egg (she didn't scan the barcode on my phone).

Ive only picked up 2 in total as my WHS is only a small one with little staff variation and with the self service right next to the manned till so you usually get watched like a hawk unless they are very busy (edited)I'll be trying.
Best to use the self serve till, and walk away if it fails.

My Screen shot from Monday doesn't show an expiry date.
The offer in my saved offers shows March 25th, and the latest offer in the app says April 7th.
I reckon the same bar code will work for the next couple of weeks at least. (edited) 
Picked up my £1 nero. And egg from WHSmith. Didn’t work on self service. It's not ethical to be taking multiple creme eggs. Also, if people keep doing this, then Three or WHSmith will stop these promotions in future. I don't understand how people think it's right to be doing this - Got a white creme egg. Rare to find a WHSmith shop with stock. Wooh productive day on my random day off!I just got one, very pleased with myself.

(edited)- They seem to be policing this more strictly than the Haribos. Picked these up from my 4 local WHS on Monday with no bother, went round again today and was intercepted at self checkout in every store telling me it won't work on self checkout. Hard to say "aye it will" without grassing on myself so proceed to show them it does in fact work!
This is true. When I was scanning my 29th Creme Egg the security guard came over and wrestled me to the ground. The entire contents of my tote spilled over the floor and I lost my Birkenstock in the tussle. I grabbed 3 of the eggs and sped off in my mobility scooter. I will never shop in Smiths again. - Just to clarify, Ashamed of myself for not going and getting another egg,
