Is there any difference with this to buying the 4k hobbit and lotr trilogies separately? Apart from presentation?

No apart from the art cards packaging and a reunion from the cast on 1 of the discs and the ultimate also has the Blu-Rays

Actually a good price on this set considering it's usually around £200. I ended up grabbing the standard 4K set a while back, as I didn't think this one was worth the RRP with the lack of included extras.

It’s pathetic as a collectors edition, they don’t make anything truly special like they used to. So glad I picked this up a year or so ago before these sets were released, then stuck my regular 4K boxset discs in:

Oh and of course it actually has the full appendices of extras! (edited)

Does this include the 3d versions of the hobbit films or do I need to wait for the 'extra this-really-is-definitely-the-ultimate-this-time version'?

I already have the extended edition UHD Blu Rays of these. Do I need this? No. Do I want it? God yes!

Picked this up in the last lot that were released, it’s a nice set, but it’s just the movies in 4k and on blu ray, it does not include the 3d versions of any movies and does not include the appendices dvds that came with the separate extended blu ray releases (each had 2 discs full of extras). There is a single extras disc included with this set, but i haven’t gone through it yet. I thought i would maybe get rid of my old blu ray extended editions with this, but I’m keeping them for the appendice discs., incase anyone else if thinking the same.

Does the 2022 release contain more deleted footage? Assuming this is the release that was originally scheduled for the anniversary in 2020
