- An Australian taught me this trick for what he called budget air conditioning, and I used it the last couple of years and it's effective, kind of! Basically you put frozen two litre bottles of water in front of an air fan. I could go through the details but essentially it only works if you are awake for obvious reasons. You need pretty much half a chest freezer to freeze and top up. If its still hot at night then unfortunately you'll have to crawl outta bed and grab some frozen bottles from the chest freezer etc.. it's far from perfect and I'm lucky enough to have s#it loads of freezer , but it's cheapWhatever cooling the bottles give you will result in equivalent extra heat on the back of your fridge.
So this trick only works if the fridge is outside the house or you shut the kitchen door and accept the kitchen will be warmer.
-source: thermodynamics laws - Anyone know if the hose kit is included?Yes it is. Its pretty short though so might not reach a high window. Plus you don't get a seal kit. I'm probably going to buy some perspex and cut a hole in it.
- I'm after something I can take to a Haven caravan if it's hot (I sleep terribly in the heat) and can be used in addition to some other units during the height of summer to help keep the house warm.
For £100, this seems to fit the bill nicely.stop going to Haven - go to Iceland and your holiday will be far more comfortable - hmm i bought a 9000 and i wouldn't say it was overly cold.. and this it's directed right at me.. 5000 might be abit too weak but for £100 might be worth a shot for some.same, now i see deals on the 12000 btu's. I think i will keep my 9000 as its just the rigght size, only thing is i have to stand next to it to cool but after i fall asleep its not a problem
- 5000 BTU wouldn't cool a broom cupboard let alone a room.
- For the price, its excellent value, however 5000 BTU isn't going really cool down a room bigger than a standard 'box' bedroom... Just be realistic with the space you're looking to cool before buying and use a BTU calculator to give you a rough estimate of what you'd require
- Don't waste your money, I bought this and 5000BTU was noisy enough to give me a headache, but did almost nothing to the room temperature. I've bought a 12000BTU and it's just right.
- Seems a decent price to cool a small room.
- Worth a try for 100 quid!it will cost 100 quid to run it for a week !
- I bought a 10,000 Meaco one for £179 last week from Amazon Warehouse, otherwise I'd be all over this for my small bedroomIs that still available?
- What's the noise on this thing like? We're able to watch the telly with it on low fan mode. We usually just it on high initially then switch to low or off even.
But yeah it's loud. - Ordered thanks
- Own Homcom 9000BTU. Its loud.very helpful, considering this is neither Homcom nor 9000BTU
- Tempted to get this but can anyone recommend a good window seal kit for this unit?
Dumb question but I assume this unit includes the hose too?Keen to know any recommended window seals too.
I bought a decent cooler a few years ago but I do just shove the hose out the window, which means I simultaneously let in the hot outside air. So it kind of spot cools the area it’s pointing at but the room itself tends to remain warm, or only a few degrees cooler. Plus I’m wasting expensive electricity. It does the trick, I stay cool; but I tend to spend the day cycling between turning it on, getting too cold with it pointed at me, turning it off, quickly becoming hot again and repeat. The room itself doesn’t become the chilly chamber I want it to be.
This is a small home office of around 3.5M x 2.5M with a 9000 btu cooler. - Was going to be looking for a small unit for my bedroom (already got a bigger one for downstairs) so this is ideal , there’s £2.50 bonus cash back through quidco signup as well.
as others have said , extra £1 or so a day on those warm days to make sleep manageable is well worth it. - Is this all you need? Or any extra bits hose too for the window ?
- Air con machine for the uk! About as useful as an ash tray on a motorbike.
- Just received mine, avoid it. Even on low fan setting it's so loud, got a headache after 5 minutes. Returning
