(I used electrical insulating tape I had about the house)
Here is a link to a tutorial on how to do it along with a youtube video from the tutorial

I purchased 2 of these on Thursday I believe and they're stuck on "Not Yet Dispatched" just wondering if that's normal or not.
Passed an unraid preclear and working happily. I got the cheap extended warranty so if they do die I’ll get my money back. Given it’s under half the price of new even with the warranty it’s not a bad deal.
S.M.A.R.T says the drive is healthy but currently in to around 24 hours of doing preclear on the drive to see if any is any possible error.....
If you get one with 0hrs on the clock, The drive has either been tampered with and reset or is genuinely a new drive that you are receiving in which case youre lucky.
Ive bought multiple refurbs off WD and have never received one with wiped SMART data.
At least these drives come directly from Amazon instead of some dodgy 3rd party seller. (edited)
I voted this cold though because I only paid £90 each delivered on Amazon for them.
I bought a 12tb WD Red for my Synology NAS drive on Friday and got it yesterday.
Set everything up and copied backups back over, installed Plex and was waiting for it to finish scanning the libraries when the drive light goes orange and the storage manager tells me the drive is now "critical" and needs replacing.
Ran the quick SMART test which subsequently finished and returned the drive to a "Healthy" status with everything green again.
I'm still thinking of sending it back though as I don't really want to take any chances.
Would anyone do the same and send it back ?. Or would it be worth running a full SMART test just to see ?. That's apparently a small matter of 20 hours .. (edited)
I posted a similar deal for an 8TB drive and had similar negative comments..
(I bought 4 refurb 8TB drives, and they're all still in good health)
Heat added.
Currently unavailable.
We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock.
*edit* sorted now in disk management. Formatted to exFaT now got to figure how to copy the drive in my Synology Drive to this external. (edited)
