Thinking of getting an ipad Pro with keyboard for my daughters uni work. She has an android lenovo tablet with keyboard case and stylus, bluetooth mouse, but recently got into an apple product phase, so she's become a snob.

What's the best way to get something comparable without getting a second mortgage on apple products!

If it’s uni work I would suggest a MacBook would be better. You can pick up a used MacBook Air m1 for £620 on Amazon. (edited)

Not worth it, iPad around the corner plus it’s been cheaper in the past.. storage very low

    64gb 🙊🙈🙉 I wouldn't buy 64gb in 2024. Not future proof

Honestly, 64gb in this era is a huge joke.

Cant recommend this tablet. The storage is to small and I dont really understand who its for. If you want to do video or photo editing and gaming a laptop is better. I guess the apple pencil 2 is good and the drawing and writing experience is good, but then your spending £629 just for a writing/drawing tablet, you can get a samsung galaxy s9 fe for cheaper and it will draw/write just as good. And if you buying a tablet for gaming you might as well get a laptop or use cloud gaming on a android tablet or a steamdeck or switch. Apple are just to controlling.

Nonsense, the fe is fairly slow in comparison and if you already use an iPhone the iPads are far superior in terms of cross compatibility with other apple devices. The point is you’ve listed about 7-8 devices and the iPad is a single device that can do a lot of things. The M1 chip is a powerful cpu and gpu and more aaa games are arriving on the App Store now, the apps are usually cross compatible, photos appear instantly and video editing is great on these devices with the right software.

I would certainly say avoid the 64gb model, though, 128gb is where you should start.

if the user is an android user then, sure, a decent android tablet makes more sense, and there are far better choices than the overpriced Samsungs out there on the Android side unless they have a Samsung phone and then it would make sense.

The problem I have with Apple is when they decide to pull the plug, they can pull the plug and this wont get updates despite the M1 chip being so good it'll last for more than a decade. Android has never been good for this, but at least a popular device has a modding scene and even Microsoft now are jumping on this band wagon. I remember my XP PC supporting everything up to Windows 10, but Windows 11 came around and "dead", cannot use it anymore. Hearing they're doing the same thing with Windows 12 and companies like Valve killing Steam with anything prior to Windows 10..... We're entering a sad world that puts me off old devices.

It’s almost a given at this point. Apple are pretty good at critical security updates though, even the old devices like the 5th Gen iPad are getting patches. They know they have to deliberately make these obsolete or no-one will buy the new ones, even iPads back to the Air 2 are fully functional and usable today. No real need to sunset Windows 10 or block 11 on older machines either, totally arbitrary.

Would anyone recommend a refurb pro M1 for £640 over this from Apple?
    Android786's avatar
I wouldn’t, better to wait until the new ones release as everything will drop, having said that iv ordered the m2 ipad pro (brand new) for £645 as i doubt itll drop to that when the new ones will be released

Edit: arrived with no issues (edited)

These are now down to $399 in the US, will continue to hold out as UK retail should hopefully catch up (eventually)

I got the 2020 ipad pro 1TB for less. You really dont need a m1 or m2 ipad. Even the 2018 ipad pro would HAVE been a good option IF it had 120hz
