Try this out. 1. Backup stuff you need/want 2. Factory reset 3. Check for update I had 7.1.1 for a long while now.

Mine is brilliant, one of the best tablets around. Good screen, good battery life, fast enough. The form factor is ergonomic for watching movies, typing and reading books.

The one I had wouldn’t. It was stuck on 6 and no amount of manual attempts would budge it. Maybe things have changed in the ten days or so since I returned it.

I have the original version which is still going strong after 3 years. No more updates, but have had no problems at all.

This will update OTA to android version 7.1.1,may need to do a manual update search to trigger update.Great tablet, fairly quick good screen and speakers.Battery ranges from good to great timewise and charges quickly, best sticking to the supplied charger though.Got mine for £200 from Argos using a quidco cashback, bargain.

Nope but my dad found that mirroring the display to his tv worked fine for cricket from star sports India app (via vpn)

Does it have a TV/HDMI out?

There are some others eg this https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F132592234117 There are a couple of cheaper ones but one has wrong description and says 720p so would have to contact them to see if they have posted wrong description or wrong device name. Another was a bit cheaper too but this seemed a genuine private seller so you have more pics to examine device

I got one for £69 inc postage for a buy it now. Genuine seller with lots of pics and it is perfect condition and battery life. Think say one for 75 quid maybe plus postage last time I checked that was private seller.

excellent tablet I got mine last year for £105 when Tesco were doing some promotion. when I first turned it on there was an immediate update to marshmallow that I went through and its great.. i still cannot fathom why people pay stupid money for ipads or Samsung tablets when these things are just as good. well worth a buy

Agreed. The Hudl 2 specification and price point was amazing. Mine broke just a few weeks ago. Sound works but screen is black. Some photos on it I'd love to recover. Trying to figure out a way to get them back without spending a fortune. Don't want to fork out for a new screen then find it's not the screen :(

we should really stop calling disk space "memory"...

I understood that the GPU on an android device uses some of the internal storage memory and not RAM which is dynamic memory used to run apps.

Lol do your homework this is HD with 2GB

I can't believe they are still selling this: this is ancient technology. Originally it came with Android 4.4, and version 5.0 is already the upgrade, and the end of the line. It has a decent screen, but CPU, RAM and storage are substandard in comparison to modern systems. I would not buy it. For now, most apps require Android 4.4, but I think they will soon move to Android 5.1, and then this tablet is too old. (And I think the specs are wrong: it does not have GPS.) PS: It did actually get an upgrade to 6.0 recently, which was a bit of a surprise (with version 8 out, why did they still work on 6?).

I bought 4 of these back when they released and have all been rock solid. 1 for me an the rest for my kids, never had any issues with stability etc, all games seem to run fine although they dont play the latest blockbusters. Battery life is still really good, lasting a full day when the kids are off school and its a lazy day. Lenovo has updated them to android 6.0, only issue/annoyance was the dolby app broke as soon as the tablets were updated. Overall though if you really can't stretch your budget to buy a Lenovo Tab 4 10 PLUS then this is still in my opinion a capable tablet.

The tab 4 is also 720p where as this one is 1080p. I have the tab 2 and it's still running beautifully I'm pretty sure it's on a newer version of android than 5 though. Edit. Just checked and its android 6

==================== EXPIRED GOING FOR £69.99 NOT £49.99 ANYMORE ======================

My dad got one of these yesterday ignoring my advice. What a load of junk. Really slow to load anything, screen is not very responsive, quality of screen is very poor and it just feels like a cheap plastic toy (which it is!) The 8GB is fine due to sim card slot, but the 1GB ram really shows. Its only £49.99 but damm, how many corners can you cut. Took it back earlier today. If you want a cheap decentish tablet, just go onto CeX/EbaY or something and buy a Nexus 7 2013 edition for like £65 or some other similar speced tablet. Make sure it has 2GB ram and a quad core. Just don't expect the world.

I'm looking for a tablet for car nagivation, so I'm thinking all I need is good specs so it doesn't lag, 4g sim card slot. Anybody have good recomendations? Trying to find a really good deal. Specs on these tablets constantly being offered is lower than what my phone was being sold 5 years ago..

Any information on how to bring the hudl2 up to date/ flash it/ do something techie so it runs current version of android?

Mixed reviews here from fellow contributors. Apologies if it isnt such a bargain. I bought a Viglen Genie (£84) with an i5 processor a couple of months ago and a Lenovo T410 laptop prior to that and an Acer Chromebook(£54) in between. All could be described as old technology but are absolutely perfect. The Viglen needed a new housing and SSD. Im using the T410 (i5) now. Both machines are fast. The Chromebook is surprisingly fast but only does what it says on the packet. Im not a nuclear physicist so I dont need my machines for anything much more than browsing and keeping in touch with the world. They would never do for gaming but at least ive got my hands on some reasonable pieces of kit with i5 processors that I couldnt afford new.

I use these for work (upgrading them soon I think). The different usage modes are good but the screen is a big poor for tablet mode. It's quite a small screen and the processor struggles on excel. we have SSDs in them and well so with a HDD this would be really slow and would need an SSD fitted. From what I know from IT we have problems with them all the time.

After my last brand new Lenovo went bust on me around 6 months in and I tried to get it fixed in China to no avail, well put off this brand. Too expensive to return it to Amazon UK (from China) so left it behind.

It's a known issue apparently that can only be resolved by replacing it with a different panel, which is likely to be costly. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Thinkpad-Yoga-ghosting-after-image-watermark-issue/m-p/1781257#M8817 COLD for me. Simply not worth the risk. Buy an Acer Swift 1 / 3 / 5 instead.

Would agree and add it's pretty ancient technology.

Sorry just seen this. CarbonIT

I know you don't really want a Lenovo due to the dated look you feel about it but I have a suggestion that might work. Not seen a great deal of other options, and I would not recommend a consumer grade machine. So with that budget something like the following would be my ideas. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CHEAP-Lenovo-Thinkpad-T450-Intel-Core-i5-5300U-5th-gen-vpro-8GB-500GB-Windows-10/302485477525?hash=item466d8a1895:g:lskAAOSwmZFZoBoZ T450, i5, vpro, 8gb ram, high res screen, dual batteries, warranty till 29th July 2018 with Lenovo should anything go wrong. No webcam or fingerprint reader on it (depending on your child that could be a good/bad thing). But it is £329 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ThinkPad-T450-240Gb-SSD-i5-5300U-8Gb-webcam-Windows-10-Pro-2-batteries/192367314584?hash=item2cc9fc4698:g:VT4AAOSwuMZZClB6 Another seller, but it's slightly better with a 240gb SSD, webcam and longer warranty for about 1 year. Only apparent down side is that it's apparently got some minor marks. Otherwise it's the same price. Add a vinyl cover for it in a design she will like or a solid colour and it turns it into a whole new machine https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RED-Vinyl-Lid-Skin-Cover-Decal-fits-IBM-Lenovo-Thinkpad-T450-Laptop-/271907795141 As just one of 1000's of options.

From which seller please?

I'll second that. Worst touchpad ever on the T440 and X240 - basically either use the TrackPoint, an external mouse or tap--to-click. I cannot believe that ever made it out of prototype stage with something so heinous.

I’ve got both the T450 (works machine) and a X240 and they’re much the same build wise. Get a 1080p screen dropped into the X240 and it’s the even better. One thing to watch is the 40 series (T440, x240 etc) have the awful all in one touchpad although it’s not difficult to change and you can get the 50 series pad for about £30 on eBay. I bought an X240 (4th gen i5, 256mb ssd and 8gb ram) from eBay for a friend with the remainder of the Lenovo on site warranty (6months) for £214 delivered last week. I really don’t understand how this has heat.

I don't think they are loud, but I don't really put them through their paces. I did have an x61 (aka: the greatest pieces of computer hardware that has ever been bestowed upon humans) and it was like a train going past. So, thanks to the wonderful docs and videos out there, changing the fan was easy... But it didn't fix the problem. So took out the logic board and reseated the CPU in fresh thermal paste, again relatively straight forward for a laptop. And that was the problem solved. So if it is far too loud that may be the problem. But bear in mind, this is info coming from 'some neckbeard fanboy on the internet who prefers a 4:3 screen and a command line full of hacky power management scripts' so y'know ymmv, caveat emptor etc etc...

Another random question, are x220s loud in 2017? i know its a gamble when buying a random refurb, but how loud are they generally like today?

Grade C. Only 4GB. No thanks. It's easy to say you can find it for only £130, but at what condition! And quite frankly the x230 is not better than the x220. Yes, the processor is marginally better, but the keyboard is atrocious!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lenovo-Thinkpad-X230-Laptop-Window-7-i5-2-6ghz-4gb-320gb-Webcam-Bluetooth-/282691387336?epid=1104742793&hash=item41d1b83fc8:g:cwUAAOSwaPtZ3yUU :) didn't take long!

Had one of those for work mid-2011. Loved this laptop, really good build. The T430 which came after was a great machine too and then the T440p was chunkier and had awful mouse buttons. The T420 is more than ok to run Windows 10 on, but worth replacing harddisk with an SSD. But this price is too high, and you'll probably have to invest in a new battery :-(

If it helps, this was a really great laptop a few years back, one of Lenovo's truly golden moments. I managed to get our local school 15 of these from work, but with more RAM (8GB) and the higher resolution screen, for nothing. They're all still going strong, some 3 years later, remembering that they were over 3 years old then. It's not that you purchased a total dud, more you just overpaid. The T430 posted earlier would be a great buy. Also saw a T440 on eBay just now for £219.99. Also one for £214.99 or best offer.

Unfortunately the ask and misc sections of HUKD are pretty dead areas of the site in terms of traffic. If you're ever unsure of if something is a good deal or not the best option it to post it before you buy and see what people are saying. If it's not a good deal you'll get a pretty quick answer like you did here.

Thank you all for the responses. Seems like I have a lot to learn with buying a laptop but feel a little better educated! I did post a "help me find a refurb laptop" on here but didn't get any replies. If I can, I'll send this one back and do some research on the links kindly provided.

The other week I won on eBay a Lenovo T430 (i7, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 1600x900 screen) for £160. There are far better bargains around than this I'm afraid...

Got 1 of these in Tesco Extra Rutherglen yesterday. Fantastic tablet for £99. Bought one 18 months ago for £149 and it's still going strong. I got a tempered glass screen protector for mine but it seriously hampered the touch screen sensitivity and I couldn't find any settings to adjust it...ended up taking it off. Probably a film one would be better for this tablet.

I was setting this model up for my non-techy friend today .... She bought it from Argos ~250. 1. Received 2 software updates 2. The screen is much better than my 1080p LG tablet 3. The reviews for this are pretty good.

Does this support adoptable storage?

More apps on Android and easier to use as a Tablet OS --> Windows is designed to be used with keyboard/mouse/touchscreen on tablets/laptops/desktops and they had to strike some compromises. Main advantage for Windows (for me it is) is that you can actually do work on those (with keybord/mouse) and keep getting OS updates but then for media consumption I prefer Android

You mean directly from Digital River, International SARL, with no immediately obvious indication if the seller is based in UK and subject to UK regulations. Probably worth a closer than normal scrutiny of warranty t&c as "one year depot" sounds a little vague and may not appeal. I lost interest when the cart wouldn't complete loading and I couldn't immediately find the warranty terms and how the warranty would be effected. Purchase by credit card may be wise to benefit from S75 protection.

Hi mate, I bought the Yoga too. Can you tell me, when you touch the right hand side bit of the screen which meets the thin bezel is there some movement, mine feels like it's moving and the back of the case creaks.
