Sixty kilometres of beach on one small island: that’s what Gran Canaria is made of.
It’s also rather like a continent in miniature, with its volcanic landscapes, sweeping pine forests and Macaronesian flora. There’s even a desert in the south. A sunshine (and people)-filled island, it’s the third largest in the Canary Islands group, but houses a whopping 50% of the population. This is no doubt thanks to vibrant Las Palmas, the island’s capital, that draws residents and visitors alike with its combination of city life and Gran Canaria’s glorious climate – declared the “best in the world” by climatologist Thomas Whitmore in 1996.

Hope it helps someone

Why on earth not? It's a great place to visit with some beautiful scenery in parts of it such as Maspalomas sand dunes, several national parks, beautiful beaches, and fantastic weather.

Just don't make any clerical errors in booking, otherwise it will cost £299.80 instead (or something like that) and the experience will still be awful. At least the hand luggage allowance will allow you to take your handkerchief and a bunch of keys with you.

It's going to be really warm there, its only a week, there's no weight limit on the hand luggage, you'd easily get a weeks worth of tshirts, kegs and shorts in there, wear a little jacket on the plane - put keys and hankerchief in pocket. (edited)

Get Bose Quiet Comfort headphones and you will think you are flying Emirates.

I still remember my flight with Ryan air to gran canaria in 2009 like it was yesterday, squashed up for 4.5 hours trying to sleep and the pilot pressed ding dong waking me up at least every 15 mins to try sell stuff or tell us how fast we're going or other pointless stuff, felt like an eternity in pain and unable to stretch ☹️
You dont get much more room on other air lines but this was the only flight ive ever felt like i couldn't do the trip home.
Then i was daft enough to go to Amadores beach ( pictured in post ) without sun cream for 8 hours 🤪 (edited)

Earplugs, always take them, kids, babies, announcements, you're welcome.

Recently took easyjet to cyprus and it was the worst airline experience ive ever had. Never had any issues with ryanair. This price is awesome. Even if you add priority and extra piece of lagguage its only around £12 each way with 10kg suitcase taht noone weights. (edited)

I have nothing against Ryanair, they have served me well. But their seats I find very uncomfortable, so 4.5 hours would be a bit painful on the old aris for me.

I did this trip from Newcastle last year, paid £50 return with Ryanair. Yep, it's not the most comfy on your backside for 4.5 hours, I think during the last 90 minutes or so I was shuffling in my seat hoping we'd land soon but it wasn't too big a deal in the grand scheme of things. This £30 return fare is phenomenal value, well worth it to go and visit Maspalomas beach and walk on the sand dunes in the reserve there like you are in a little desert.

Cracking deal, and nice to see a Manchester airport deal 🏼 🏼

Anyone know the rough cost of hotels when booking over the counter?

Never used them, do their seats recline or are they locked off?
    truevine's avatar
They do not recline. Just been on this Ryanair flight

Never been, can anyone recommend a resort that has good volcano landscape hikes nearby?
