The destination

In Budapest, there's a wealth of experiences waiting for you. Start by marveling at the stunning architecture of the Hungarian Parliament Building and the iconic Chain Bridge, which look even more breathtaking when illuminated at night. Take a dip in the city's famous thermal baths, like the Széchenyi or Gellért Baths, for a rejuvenating experience. Don't miss exploring the historic Buda Castle, offering panoramic views of the Danube River and the city. Wander through the vibrant streets of the Jewish Quarter, where you can discover unique ruin pubs and eclectic street art. And of course, indulge in Hungarian cuisine by trying traditional dishes like goulash and chimney cake at local eateries. Budapest truly offers a blend of culture, relaxation, and culinary delights.

Really like Budapest but not sure I could stay there for a week.

A week is about right to see the City itself and have an overnight (or two) trip up to Eger. About 2 and a bit hours on the train and only about £12 last time I was there just after lockdown. I would heartily recommend Eger - a very beautiful City which is a far step away from the busy Budapest. It is worth visiting for the architecture and the centre itself but the added bonus is about a 30 minute walk out of the main part is the Valley Of The Beautiful Women. A series of wine caves serving fresh out of the barrel wines. I am not a wine drinker but could appreciate the quality of the wine on offer. Loads and loads of choice.

Trains are very clean and safe and the station is a 10-15 minute walk from the centre. You'll find accommodation is pretty cheap here for a night or two as well. The City centre has loads of reasonable restaurants and bars. I actually preferred Eger and I loved Budapest!

Will cost most more to get to and from bournmouth airport due to its crappy bus service and inflated taxi prices

never seen such a poorly served airport for public transport

Flight times look good, from Liverpool to Eastern/Central Europe destinations most outbound flights get in around midnight

Buzz Air! That brings back memories. I once needed an emergency flight from Finland. Was told there was a delayed Buzz air flight leaving soon. Got free return tickets for any of their routes for the delay, even though I bought the tickets just before take off. This was in about 2003.

Shortly after Ryan Air disbanded Buzz. So I never did use them. Wonder if they will be valid now lol.
