About this deal

This two-gang socket from BG gives you a durable power source for outside your home. Install it on the external wall of your house, shed or garage for a readily available power outlet that means you don't have to trail an extension lead from inside. This socket makes it easier than ever to power a lawnmower or pressure washer in the garden. It's also commonly used to power timer lights for decking or during the festive season.

The IP66 rating certifies the box is made to withstand harsh weather, stopping dust and rain from damaging the socket. Its polycarbonate housing is UV-stabilised so it will retain its professional look and not warp in high temperatures. Fittings are included to help make installation easy. The case has multiple knockouts for cabling access, and the in-built gasket makes it quick to secure after wiring. The lights above each socket indicate whether they're on or off, and are visible through the closed cover.

• Double locking clips for added security and protection

• Groove for securing plug cables neatly

• Polycarbonate housing is robust and durable

• IP66 rating protects sockets from rain or dust

• UV-stabilised so won’t warp or get damaged from the sun’s rays

Sparky quoted me £800 for 6 of these sockets which would run from armoured cable (about 25m from the house)

    Being ripped off?

That’s quite high, unless your central London..

Get more quotes and def dig the trench yourself.

Depends on the complexity i guess but sounds pretty good value. Electricians are trained professionals so how much is fair to go to a someone's house and spend time fitting stuff, using all your own equipment and providing a guarantee of good workmanship? 20% of that £50 will be VAT as well.

Not sure I'd want to do it for £50 tbh! (edited)

£10.99 Screwfix / £11.99 Toolstation (both in my town).

OK price but not worth the extra fuel for me with no Homebase close.

Is this big enough to fit a plug and a smart plug?
And if not, are there any outdoor sockets which can?

    Use a masterplug waterproof box

Any outdoor weatherproof extension socket that I could plug through a normal socket which is inside the house?
I have a 2 gang 13 amp socket inside and was wondering if I could use that?

Just drill a hole through the wall, take the plug off and thread it trough.. then stick the 2 gang extension into a dry box (weatherproof box) then buy a RCD plug for £9.99 for inside the house. That’s how my pond and outdoor lights have been running for years with zero issues.
