Just got back from Florida this week. Whilst the weather is great, be prepared to be shocked by the price of food everywhere including fast food. The quality of food has gone down compared to all my previous visits. Shopping in outlets is no longer worth the hassle of carrying items back as you’ll probably get the item around the same price online here. Disney is super expensive now compared to pre covid. Universal was cheaper before however we managed to buy the passes online in the UK at a better price than in the US. Disney now charge for fast track per ride and Universal charge per day per person.

    Hope this helps.

'm going next month for 10 days May half term. Here's my total so far in case that helps. I think this factors in everything except food:

Great price, but just be aware you'll be spending a lot more during a fortnight in Orlando; US has gotten super expensive lately.

The prices are rising fast too. Everytime I go I'm shocked at how much things have gone up. However, there's no point in shopping for things to bring home nowadays so that leaves money for food. Luckily when I go I self cater but in a hotel room you're going to be spending an awful lot of money. Even McDonald's is extortionate and it used to be a cheap meal on the way home after a day out. Factor in parks too and you're into the thousands.

@Rmcstar another great offer! Have you found any offers for Japan on your travels?

Think there were a few deals a few months ago with the chinese airlines for under £400 for flights and with Etihad for about £600, but nothing amazing as of yet

We need your help for finding deals during the half term at the end of May

I’m going May half term and booked last year end October with BA holidays. We paid £4.5k for 2 adults, 2 kids and 10 nights at a Marriott self catering villa.

Black Friday the prices went up!

Think I'll pass having read all the very helpful comments about rocketing prices, having to tip ridiculous amounts for anything and everything, and crap quality food.
    Staycation it is!

Second that decision. I had expected it to be expensive and it was worse than that. Food quality is atrocious and I am being generous when I say that. Everything tastes the same, is excessively salty, and full of cholesterol... You aren't missing on anything other than the Disney magic

I’d rather pay extra for good service than having to endure the type of service I experienced yesterday at Chessington despite having spent average of £70pp for park tickets and eating etc.

At least the American resorts still try and provide some ‘magic’ for the kids.

The UK parks are typically run by moody teenagers or moody teenagers who have grown into moody adults.

Seems a great deal but I don't think you should be using that code unless you work for the NHS or Military!

I just want a bargain for the school summer holidays but not getting my hopes up. Lol

Let me know if you find any good deals, thank you.

If you are doing Disney factor in around £500 per person for tickets (14 day pass)
    Pikachuprincess's avatar
You can purchase a day pass via a VPN for Orlando, I believe every other Disney offers day passes without having to do this.

Us Brits have fallen so far back in standard of living that we are too poor to be going to the US on holiday. All the americans are coming to the UK for their holidays...we may be almost 3rd world nowadays, but we are a bargain to our rich cousins from across the pond.
    goody's avatar
This is a good point wages have gone up in america over the years while in the uk we are purposely keeping wages low...while keeping as many people in the tax threshold year by year its no wonder people in the uk cant afford anything..

Remember the person who posted all those holidays deals a few years back? What was the username, sunshine something? I wonder what happened to that person/contributor?

Sunshine Stacey. I believe she started her own website sharing holiday deals, although I don't know if it is still up and running.

I'm currently in Florida (TUI flying via MLB) after having 14 nights. This is a great price and international drive is a really good location for all Disney parks and Universal.

In terms of the general cost of eating out and supermarkets prices are more expensive but not prohibitively so.

For the parks you really need to factor in Genie Plus, fastrack for Disney and Express for universal as waiting times on the popular rides eat into your day. You need to download the apps and also join the virtual queues when available for the rides you want.

Nothing has changed about tipping and I do get it is alien to us but if you're worried you can't afford to tip then I'd question if the US is the right type of trip.

In terms of side trips well worth doing Kennedy Space Centre. Wikee Wachee Kayaking and Cocoa Beach.

Parking prices are crazy in the parks (32 Dollars). You can take drinks and food in though and I'd recommend you do this as food is crazy expensive and average quality.

The bit that puts me off the US isn't necessarily the expense, but the fact you get dreadful quality for that expense. Compare Switzerland with the US...probably equal in terms of cost to buy food. But if you buy food in the states at the same price you are literally eating junk food. Went to NYC just prior to the pandemic. Was trying to keep costs down so ate on a budget...a crappy hotdog from a chain fast food place was still £7. Quite frankly I'd rather starve than pay that. The human body can go without food for a couple of weeks anyway.

How do you take kids out in May if it's not in term times holidays from schools?????
    vanbling's avatar
You pay the fine the school will give

I find tipping is so annoying. Great service is rare and one is expected to tip regardless.
  20. sidney69's avatar
lol not sure it’s £407pp given that the kids won’t be paying for there air fare

Haven’t been for years and have been toying with the idea of booking again but reading these comments really put me off. I remember the days of cheap-ish food and clothes/trainers but all I hear now is expensive crap food and queues in the park. And the old free fast pass was pretty good, not this new way that you have to pay extra for.

Park tickets are daylight robbery now too.

I’m not sure I’d do one of these “cheap” flight/hotel deals though as you’d end up spending hundreds on food, transport etc anyway.

We used to do Disney hotels and villas so would probably stick with that. I’d recommend a villa but again, you’d need to hire a car but you could save by self-catering some days, pizza take aways back at the villa after a park day. You soon get fed up with burgers and pizza after two weeks though.

Another option is a Disney hotel and booking when the free Disney dining plan offer is on - it starts soon for 2025 if anyone’s interested. You probably end up paying for the food anyway with the cost of the hotel but it’s an extra cost you don’t need to worry about when you’re there. Transport to the parks is free too. I’m sure a lot of people get into thousands of pounds worth of debt for a Disney holiday but personally I don’t think it’s worth it.

Staying on a Disney resort and using Disney Dining Plan was fantastic for us when as a friend group we'd stay at Saratoga Springs.

Disney Dining Plan has been changed so that only the deluxe resorts get a table service meal now as opposed to the moderate resorts. They were fantastic, particularly when you could use two tokens for one of the nicer restaurants.

I can definitely see how the quick service dining plan still offers good value, particularly for places like Blaze Pizza, but I'd be left with a lot of unused quick service tokens on that particular plan.
