About this deal

Good time to visit samui as the sea is calm and its mostly dry unlike phuket, also being off season everything is cheaper and less crowded. Ive been 3 times in June and its very hot but a good time to go and this has great BA flights via singapore to get you there with the minimum of fuss. Lots of options on dates and hotels and resorts but this seems a nice option. Dates flights and duration are pretty flexible.

Please don’t go this time a year. I am here now . No air to breath and constantly 38-39 degrees. This is the worst holiday I ever had. Leaving the room it’s big challenge. High humid and heat it’s shocking bad . In June on top you will experience heavy rains making humid even worse . Honestly please don’t go in UK spring and summer months . 52706084-rRLvU.jpgAir con in room set to lowest and can’t go lower than 29 degrees.

Out of interest, I note you’re a seasoned traveller to Thailand and this will be your 13th trip. How come you weren’t aware of the temperatures at this time of year, have things changed this year or is the climate quite different at the location of this particular hotel ?

Thanks OP, hadn’t really considered Thailand in summer hols, but never thought about the islands weather being different.

Looks like sea temps average ~28c in July/Aug aswell, so could be a great option with young kids. So far Maldives has been my preferred option, but I think they’d enjoy Thailand.

chaweng beach on samui would be more suitable for kids as nice and shallow gently shelving, crystal clear blue sea, lamai gets deep quickly and less clear, also lamai has go go bars on the main drag whereas chaweng doesnt so much. The middle of chaweng beach is about the best position for sand/sea. In the winter months its too rough to swim at chaweng (edited)

Thailand is the best place on earth. If you complain about the hot weather than go to Antarctica where there is free natural air con and much more powerful than the man made ones. 🤪

Its not good sightseeing in the humidity but i found it fine for a beach holiday, just stayed in the sea most of the time

I was in Phuket in Feb, which was ok, but it was full of Russians. Is Samui the same?
    ciaravella's avatar
Most places that don’t restrict Russia travel are now full of Russians: Cyprus, Dubai, Thailand. I am not one for generalising however I have yet to come across a polite Russian.
For example in Dubai they were in the pool spitting in the water, someone asked them to stop and the response was aggressive and very rude.

Oooooh Thailand - worked summers here & lazed the winters there for a while.

Quite probably the best days of my existence.

Im not convinced you are in samui as the temp is 29/30 at the moment not 39. As to rain samui gets far less than other areas of thailand at that time of year. I would go tomorrow if i could. Ive never come across an aircon that cant be adjusted I think you need to find a different hotel , where about are you staying at the moment. Ive spent 7 weeks in June in samui in total and it was brilliant every time, hardly any rain and 30 degs temp. Perfect. If you go in the winter as you suggest the seas are too rough to swim in samui and at that time of year phuket or krabi, koh chang, koh lipe would be far better. (edited)

Does koh samui have less massage places than Phuket?
    Ouzoherb's avatar

There are plenty around on samui but the resorts are a little smaller, lamai has more adult bars as well as restaurants etc. Lots of massage on the beach available or parlours off the main roads

I came back from Samui in March this year.. lovely and already booked to go back in March next year.
Lamai is fine as a tourist hot spot and no where near as busy as Phuket namely Patong.
Lamai beach wasn't crowded and the sea was calmer than Chaweng. Chaweng was overcrowded with aggressive sea.
If you want really calm beach go to the north of the Island. You'll be the only people on the beach and it's very calm but a little isolated so need your own transport to get about

Defeats the object really going so far this time of year, it's 25 in the garden right now with the med only an hour away.
I love Thailand and have been this time of year but if you can put up with the higher prices it's a lot better in the winter.
Having said all that I still wish I was there.

28 sea temperature v 14 here makes a huge difference on a beach holiday. Crete is 18.5 as another option. F cold or bath water, you take your choice.
