I'm shocked that this code still works, if I'm honest. It's a fantastic price for those starting out that need a helping hand. I'm not personally a fan of subscription services like these, mainly because of the amount of free content out there, which is ever-growing.

That said... I know it could be super useful to some and if those people are thinking of paying monthly for this, or enjoyed a trial and found that the price point is just to much at the moment... £17.40 for 12 months is pretty great. If you go for this, I'd say that it would still be a great idea to use places like YouTube, especially if you're wanting to expand on something you've learned along the way.

Just get stuck in and don't rush yourself when learning! It's hard going in the early days, so give yourself time and come join the hukd band

Please do feel free to chat guitar in the comments, help anyone that needs it with suggestions, alternative ways of learning and instrument advice. We don't get loads and loads of guitar related deals posted, then when we do get a few.... we often see new players or relatively new players ask questions which may be better placed somewhere like this

    Great deal! Just signed up.

Just watch out for automatic renewal of subscription (no doubt at full price). I tried to cancel renewal from the Account / Billing settings as soon as I signed up but annoyingly it treats this as a cancellation of the whole subscription, according to their warning message. Could be because the first payment won't be made until after 14 days so it would be worth cancelling the renewal after that has happened
    jirish781's avatar
States online that "if you cancel, your subscription will stop at the end of your current billing cycle". Indicates that you should be ok to cancel anytime and still have your full annual allowance.

I signed up to the Annual Plan at a discounted rate of £22.50 in Jan 2021 and its renewed for the past two years at same price.
As such I wouldn't cancel straight away, just mark fwd in your diary to check in a year!!
    RobbieBlake's avatar
I pay by PayPal but just checked in Fender "My Account" and next payment for Jan 2024 set up for £22.50 too

Should do. This deal was also posted back in December and went very hot!

Thanks OP for posting! Perfect timing as I bought my first guitar only last Saturday and have been looking around at various places online for lessons, etc. I've signed up to this and it looks to be just the ticket for an absolute beginner like me.

I don't wish to hijack the thread, but if any experienced players have a tips, tricks or things to think about when starting out learning the guitar I'm all ears! Thanks

Get a tuner. Doesn’t have to be the most expensive. I use the wee clip on ones.
Take your time, progress isn’t so much steady but in bursts in my experience . it’s easier to learn something you want to learn and it’s a better feeling when you nail it. If you can play along to a metronome or drum track (YouTube.) it can really help your timing. Record yourself and listen back, it can really help. Most importantly, keep it fun.

I have an existing sub that expires in May, and this worked for me, and extended for a year - cheers!
    Daves_mate's avatar
Hi, how did you make it work with existing sub?

I have one too which is going to renew for £44.99 in a few weeks. Do I have to cancel completely or is there a way to add the code to mu current sub?
    Thanks.

How do you turn off auto renew please?
    Sproggy's avatar
Go into your Account settings and then select Billing. You will see the option there. As I mentioned earlier though, during the first 14 days it will warn you that you are cancelling the whole subscription. To be safe, I'd recommend cancelling after your payment has been taken 14 days after sign-up.

Great find. Would also be worth mentioning that they also offer 10% discount off Fender products too. Although I’m sure that will probably only bring most of their equipment in line to Major shop prices
  8. Herniol's avatar
I went for it hoping it will turn me into another Buckethead

    Thanks!
  9. internetcreation's avatar
    Thank you.

I had a subscription during lockdown etc, expired and went with Rocksmith - but I just don’t enjoy it, I’m not ‘learning’ the guitar in the same way.

I have checked the renewal after buying this and it says it’ll also be £17.39 next year too!

    Anyone recommend?

I've tried Tyler Larsons "Music is win Guitar Super System and Bernth Shread Community. Tylers was just videos which did nothing and Bernth's was ok especially with the Guitar Pro files but lost motivation quickly. (edited)

I find patreon.com/Gui…365 engaging and he has some good content. Not subscribed to anything as been playing far too long to start that journey however his methods on YT I enjoy and are pretty accurate.
  11. edgeone's avatar
Great value for money and a decent amount of content. Aimed more towards the beginner but covers the basics well. At less than £2 a month I think it's excellent and there seems to be a regular feed of new songs.
  12. ukflyboy's avatar
Cheers, given it a go to see what it's like. Been playing bass on and off for 20 years but never had a lesson so been working my way through studybass - will have a look at this for a comparison.

Anyone used the ukulele section, can give me an idea if it’s any good for a player who hasn’t picked his uke up for a year. (edited)
    ukflyboy's avatar
I've not used the ukulele section at all, but I had a look at the bass one today and it's very basic. I've been playing for years but never had a lesson so joined to see if it could teach me a thing or two but no, it was just too basic. I reckon a dedicated student could complete all the lessons to a good standard in 4-6 weeks easily, so a years subscription is a bit pointless if I'm honest. Maybe the Uke section will be more advanced, but if it is anything like the bass bit then if you can play a simple song all the way through already then you'll not get anything from it. They do a free trial though, so you can always give it a crack and if you don't like it just cancel as I have just done!

Where does the £173 come from? Mine was £70 although that was over 6 months ago it can't have gone up that much? £17.40 is a bargain.
  15. FantasticMrFox's avatar
Great find. Only $15 (£12.67ish with fee free card) via USA vpn

I finally decided to stop making excuses and try and learn guitar this year. I bought Rocksmith 2014 for the Playstation and whilst this has massively helped with getting familiar around the fretboard and muscle memory with the strings, I guess it is best to run this is parallel with actual structured lessons. I'm conscious that solid technique is the most important thing, and I see no point in developing bad habits which could be easily avoided.
I've just signed up to Fender Play - this is a mega offer and based on it's reviews, this is exactly what will help me improve.
Thanks so much for sharing this offer!

    Many thanks for this.

Signed up with PayPal, is there any way to see future payments a bit like a direct debit? The Payments section of my account only seems capable of showing payments made retrospectively, I'd just like to be sure that I can't be charged the full amount.

    Thanks.

If you go to fender.com/pro…ing it says there i.e. NEXT PAYMENT £17.39

So I signed up for this to see what it is like. I've been playing bass on and off for years (though all self taught, never had a lesson) so admittedly I'm not Fender's target audience, but the bass sections is very basic. The lessons are pretty well put together but I reckon a committed student starting from absolute scratch could finish all the lesson to a good standard in 4-6 weeks. If you can already play a couple of simple tunes all the way through then you probably won't get enough out of it to make even the £17 worthwhile! Maybe they've concentrated on guitar?...

It's also very riff heavy - if I'm being cynical I'd guess that Fender are counting on people learning a few recognisable riffs that they can show to their friends in the hope that they then go out and buy a Fender guitar and amp which sit in the corner for years! Smart marketing.
    Damthatlazlo's avatar
I’ve taught a few friends to play guitar over the years and teaching them to play something easy, well known and more importantly that they like was the key to them sticking with it.
But it is a massive marketing tool for them. I can’t stop looking at new basses! Although given the price of Mexican fenders I’m more likely to buy a sandberg

I only get the options £99.99 annual & £14.99 monthly.
Also the discount code isn't working.
The only place I can see to add the code is by clicking on my Google payment method and selecting redeem code.

I got it sorted. The Fender Play app had different prices and was linked to my Google Play Family payment method.
I uninstalled the app and used the Fender website which had the same prices as the OP and accepted the discount code.
  21. 8ndy's avatar
I’ve been using Justin guitar (free version) is this any better?
  22. Retrovertigo's avatar
Wow! Thanks for this OP. Mine had lapsed recently, and unlike the past couple of years, Fender didn't offer me a discount to renew. On top of that the price increase is ridiculous!

I really did think I had missed the boat on this but it still works Cheers!!!

More importantly for someone starting out .. tips on what type of guitar (acoustic or electric) and where to buy one from? Rough idea of budget, too?
    Vasileios_Papathanasiou's avatar
All comes down to taste. Everything is up to you.
If you like the electric sound, into rock metal etc, then electric.
There are many shops which sell guitars : gak, guitar guitar, andertons,, thommann, etc
You can even try ebay for something used.

The budget can start from 100-200 pounds and can be limitless. Nowadays there are not many crappy guitars, as they used to be in the past . Almost everything sounds good and feels ok

Go to a music shop and see for yourself, feel them, get a basic idea about their sound and choose something that you like and will make you to want to pickup this guitar frequently to play.

Also, if you go for an electric guitar and you like the heavier sound, make sure that you get one with a humbucker pickup at the bridge (instead of a single coil).
