There is a new 24-storey hotel being constructed on previously unoccupied land, adjacent to the Sirenis Tropical Varadero. Whilst schedules and plans are unclear, we are aware that this project is expected to be completed in May 2024. As of January 2023, the construction is in its early stages with the foundations currently being prepared. As the build progresses throughout the year, impact will fluctuate depending on which stage of the build they are at. Due to the location and nature of the work being carried out, along with the tools and machinery expected to be in use. we anticipate that you may be able to see and/or hear this taking place from nearby rooms and public areas in the vicinity. Nothing has changed regarding the standards and service that the Sirenis Tropical Varadero has to offer. Although outside of their control, the hotel management have assured us that all necessary measures will be taken to reduce the impact of this project on your holiday enjoyment, which includes allocating you in a room away from the work, wherever possible.

Just be aware that a visit to Cuba can make a subsequent visit to the USA potentially problematic.

"One of Donald Trump’s final legacies was to class Cuba as a “state sponsor of terrorism” (SST). This means anyone who has visited the island no longer qualifies for a cheap and easy Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) visa waiver to enter the US as a visitor. Instead, they have to pay the fee and undergo an interview for a non-immigrant visa"

For those that regularly travel to the US it is worth reading this page gov.uk/gov…ble

An additional passport is the cheapest option for you and it specifically references the issue and how to manage it and your extra passport.

That's really worth knowing. We've been to Cuba and we want to do an Alaska cruise next time we're visiting my son in Vancouver and also to have the freedom generally of popping over the border. I guess our passport office would be a better choice than the US embassy. Yet another reason to despise Trump.

Cuba is fabulous, fascinating country, absolutely worth visiting.

This is from an article from The Times “You’re not barred from entering the US altogether. But instead of a $21 Esta, you’ll have to apply for a tourist visa through the US embassy, which will cost you a hefty $160.

However, because Cuba was temporarily taken off the State Sponsors of Terrorism list before being reinstated, if you visited the country before January 1, 2021, you should still be eligible for an Esta. If your visit was on or after this date, you will need a visa to enter the US. Having an Esta doesn’t guarantee you entry into the US though, so you should contact your nearest US embassy if in doubt.”

Plus you have to visit the embassy and they have a huge waiting list. I have been researching as a result of the OP and some say if your passport doesn't have a Cuba stamp you'll probably get away with it!!

the US thing is a red herring from UK - they give you a slip in visa, and that is all that the cuba authorities use . Unless you tell them in US, they will not know (edited)

Prefer Cuba to Jamaica any day of the week. However the humidy can be very high at this time of year which i find very uncomfortable. Take plenty of Mozzie spray with 50%deet.

I did varadero last year it was stunning. Havana was magical too!
I didn't know about the US thing at the time though - if I had I might've chosen Jamaica instead!!

I did 4 nights in Havana and 10 days in Varadero and we had a wonderful time. Next visit will be to travel about a bit more as the country is gorgeous.

Went a few years ago with a company called Rickshaw travel (- other companies are available). We don't do lying on beaches and wanted to experience the island. Travel style was small hotels and casa paticulares - essentially privately owned b&b. Got around by bus/taxi. Fantastic experience as we got to see so much more of Cuba than a couple of generic beaches you could get anywhere else. Got to talk to the people too which gave a real insight into life there. Food in the casa was so much better than the hotels (pretty much all government owned) as they had access to the black market for food. Basic plan of tour - Havana, Trinidad, Viñales, Cienfuegos & Las Terrazas.

You can't use Chase bank's debit card or banking app there either.
They simply will not work at all.
Visited Varadero & Havana in 2016 and it is a good holiday destination.
