This is a large 5kw (cooling capacity) portable unit.  This will mean a couple of things.

    1. Usually, I'm posting that a unit is too small, but this system is too large for most rooms.  Oversizing may sound like a great idea, but you'll find that by oversizing, you achieve temperature quickly but do not reduce the humidity, leaving you with an uncomfortable space.  Unless you have a large room or a high amount of heat source, I would suggest looking for a smaller unit.
    2. It will be noisy - all portables are, but this one will be worse.
    3. If you don't take time to have this operate efficiently by using a window seal for the duct, it's going to cost a fair amount to run

Very cheap for a system this size, which for me, is a tad strange - although the seller seems legit (not heard of them, but had a quick google) (edited)

Where are you seeing 5kW, listing states 2kW? You wouldn’t be able to plug 5kW in.

    Photos say 15,000BTU

    It also says 10,800BTU

Cooling capacity is measured according to specific criteria based on where it is actually installed - what they have in that picture is BTU as calculated for SACC & ASHRAE ratings, both American Standards, the first being specifically for portable units in the US, because (I believe) they have regulations requiring it. The UK has no such regulations, so the manufacturer can basically apply a "liberal" BTU figure based on whatever basis they want.

If you buy a fixed AC system, you would actually get a "UK Nominal" cooling capacity, based on UK conditions, but they don't do that for portables here.

I ordered last week and received it nextday. I only realised the hose is bigger to my previous unit so had to order an adapter (link below). Yes its loud but cools quick so don't need to leave it on long.:

What is the warranty on it? I can’t see any warranty details.

So is it 18000btu or not?
    Cooling_Deals's avatar
It's 18000btu at xC ambient - what X is... who knows, as they never provide this (might be in the tech specs of the manual); likely 28C. It's also a tad optimistic due to the design of portables, which is why America has provided a method to provide this data - as seen, it drops quite a bit

To explain further, the cooling duty (and heating capacity if a feature - not applicable here) is different dependent on ambient - this is because refrigeration relies on the heat transfer from both evaporator to room, but also condenser to ambient (in this case, via the hose) and the hotter it is, the less efficient it becomes, and less actual cooling duty you see. This might be 18000btu at 28C, but will be less BTU the hotter ambient gets.

It's comparable to any 18,000btu portable in the UK market, as they all use optimistic BTU indicators. Regardless, it's a large portable unit for larger spaces or spaces with high heat load. (edited)

Finally a model i can see its SACC value. It’s quite important though. Basically it’s the real power of the unit in BTU scale. Since single hose models are notoriously inefficient, a downgrade from its advertised 18000 btu to 10800 makes sense. (edited)

SACC is a US standard based on nominal US conditions by the Department of Energy for portables - it means very little in the UK. We have our own nominal values, which you will find when buying a fixed AC system, but there are no such regulations or approaches seen for portable units. (edited)

    Less than 65db lmao.

Sure it is, when it’s turned off.
    PhatTrance's avatar
Yup. I buy ear plugs ha! They just take that edge off when the pump kicks in!

I doubt its really 18000btu, i have a 12000btu and its huge like almost the size of a washing machine and very loud, if this is 18000 must sound like a jet taking off and the size of a fridge (edited)
    TheRealDealHuntsman's avatar
    10,800 BTU under SACC
  8. Tomarse49's avatar
Was going to chance it and buy one but they’ve put the price up now so they can keep it.

Almost 2000 watts! Obviously a lot of cooling needs a lot of power, but you could really rack up the bills with this.

You know you’re going to be nickel and dimed when one of the 4 operation modes is ‘sleep’

They know exactly what they are doing - normally 3 modes = no heat pump mode, 4 modes = heat pump mode
    nublets2k's avatar
Wouldn't bother using an air source heat pump, might as well just burn money
  14. BoGoF's avatar
Would of been perfect if it had heating too like all the other big btu models
