Re gas is a con. If your ac doesn't work your ac has mechanical fault e.g. system coolant leak.

I had my fiesta re gassed as it didn't work. After the regas it worked fine for 4 years before I got rid of it.

Do they do a full regas or only top up like 50 grams

It says 500 grams. If extra is needed then that will be chargable.

To see how much gas your car takes opent he bonnet and on the under side of the bonnet you will see a sticker.

To anyone please believing this tosh that 100% sealed car AC systems exist, look into SAE J2727. These people write the automotive regulations in the USA and this sets out the standard for evaluating factory install of vehicle AC systems. J2727 allows for 11g or 1.5% of total charge to be released per year. The SAE also designs the AC system fittings and say that they should be expected to leak.

Type "J2727 pdf" and you will get an SAE powerpoint detailing Delphi/GM lab testing of brand new, modern, streamlined car AC systems and they all had some degree of leakage.

To sum up, leak free car AC systems do not exist.

Trouble is most people think a/c is only for providing cold air when it's hot and only use the system in the summer months. It is not.The system should be used all year round with the temprature control used accordingly. The system will then stay serviceable and wont need regassing.

Regas isn't a con. Don't unduly damage your ac, by not properly maintaining it.

Unlike to damage it. If the pressure's too low, the compressor won't engage in many cars. They have a pressure sensor on the high side.

Had mine done by ATS on groupon deal. Works for a day then blew warm air again. They advised to get it fixed and then come back for a free re gas. How much is it to get fixed?? £50-£1000 depending on the fault.

Luckily Groupon gave me refund, in credits mind.

I recently got an audi i took it to get regassed and the garage said they didnt have the equipment to regas the new audis and it would be more expensive than normal.. anyone had experience with this?
And can i still get this deal
    chillbill's avatar
Must be a small outfit with the old gas. The newer gas is more expensive, but on advertised price it will mention which gas it is.

"A new more environmentally friendly vehicle air conditioning system refrigerant gas (known as R1234yf) has become widely used (instead of R134a) from the 1st January 2017 on passenger cars and Light Goods Vehicles"
