I am on Vodafone and according to 4g.co.uk they have two 4g bands. https://www.4g.co.uk/4g-frequencies-uk-need-know/Band 20= 800Mhz Band 7=2600mhz I did a speedtest and I get 12/5MB inside. So still very very usable. So if you have band 7 available you might and check this out. I took a risk with the Mi 6 on vodafone as I am at home alot or I have access to public wifi most of the time. So even with 3g speeds that will be fine when I am out and about. Attached is screenshot I took today. [Image]

Anything below 30 is garbage nowadays. This is the problem with Vodafone o2 in my area they where dragged kicking and screaming to 4g from edge. These Chinese phones are great my RN4 easily beats the Huawei p8 lite. The landline situation is even worse. My mum just got guaranteed 40 on fibre and egularily gets 25. To get out of broadband because of speed issues is nigh on impossible which is why I'm staying on my 64gb 13gbp EE osprey which I use for my house broadband

had this phone (6GB version) from gearbest for a few months. No SMS issue. Could be that I flashed the official global rom. I use 3.

What a cracking deal and even more cracking phone! Have had Mi5 since a year and half and still going great so might upgrade soon. Thanks op

Not a problem if you are using a case

Maybe personal usage but I have a thin case for scratch protection etc. But if I did have a heavier duty case I'd expect to be a little bit moisture /dust resistant etc. Having a conduit for water to get in (via the fpc) is not ideal.

I can see it on some ghetto raspberry pi or on a drone but on a phone you spend £££ on and depend on potentially for critical scenarios (making a call). Not worth the risk imo. Each to their own

Children are sent into mines in Africa for the lithium and other metals to make phones like this.

Lithium mining in Africa only amounts to 20% of world production and almost exclusively from mines in Zimbabwe. Most of the world's lithium is extracted from brine via evaporation. From a mining point of view it is not traditional mining so very unlikely children would be involved as its mainly heavy drilling and pumping equipment that is being used.

The shirt on your back is far more likely to have had child labour involvement than the production of lithium.

I dont think this is the official global version by Xiaomi, it seems like the chinese version.
The seller will open your new sealed phone and flash with a international rom before sending.
So you will not receive in 'sealed box'. Personally I would wait until 'official' Global versions are released shortly.

Read no.3 where it says "Please read the TIPS carefully before placing an order!".....

"3. Please leave us a comment if you want a sealed box. Otherwise we will unseal the box to do "Quality Control" and flash the multi-language ROM for the Chinese version. The original box from manufacturer is sealed. It's only with English and without "Play Store".

For me it's the angle. I've seen folk in the city with the equivalent of a good maglight on their bike pointed straight forward. Great! You'll see the brick wall ahead but not a pothole, and you'll blind everyone in the process even though your light isn't that bright.

I agree. As a regular cycle commuter and driver, some of these rear lights are so bright that the driver has to look away from you while approaching to overtake, how can that be safe?!
I have a very bright front light for riding in dark country lanes, but I always switch it to a lower brightness mode when I get into street lights. I also have a small flashing helmet light, but I would never mount a bright light on there unless I was riding off road.

As you are proving YMMV - but in my experience with these there are certain points in my commute (specifically bends with parked cars) I feel I gain a few inches as drivers (deliberately or subconsciously) follow the lines taking a wider route.

Agree on rechargeable usb's too but would say more the merrier (with contingency) although would also recommend a small helmet one too as having had the biggest impact when approaching side roads with cars parked up obscuring your visibility on cars wanting to pull out, they see you much sooner having a light above the roof line. Just no need to be too powerful on the roads.

Buying directly from China has greater risk than UK purchases though you can buy pretty much any product on aliexpress from a UK reseller. I've purchased around 10 phones from Aliexpress, Geekbuying, Banggood and Gearbest over the last 18 months or so, all arrived safely without issue with considerable savings though it's wise to remember the risks.

Problem was when I get a crappy eBay seller I can go to PayPal or eBay, post enough evidence and usually get a reasonable outcome. On aliexpress my phone just didn't turn on after only 3 months use and the vendor ignored my request for repair/return whilst the aliexpress customer report just basically drew the issue on without resolving it (waited 6 weeks where each time I spoke to a different person - probably even a bot). I have to say I've spent quite a bit of money with aliexpress as I'm an audiophile and just a geek in general so have bought several Xiaomi, Meizu, ZUK etc phones as well as loads of different earphones so that one experience was enough to turn me bitter and promise never to buy from them again. Gearbest, banggood and the others have all been good to me so I've just stuck to them so far and never looked back at aliexpress.

I think you're right about that, herd mentality certainly seems to happen on some deals but not all. There's also the weird and undefined algorithm that HUKD voting has, as I understand it, it's non linear so ramps up either hot or cold, I assume something like the first 10 votes add 10 points, the next 10 add 20 points, the next 10 add 50 points or something like that. Or I imagined it.

Might aswell just say you can give £200 to any random Chinese retailer you fancy, wait a month, pay customes duty, then you might receive a phone with a certain similarity to the one pictured if you're lucky.COLD.

I would be more concerned that it is an Umi phone, that has a good chance of turning up broken, or breaking as soon as you look at it.

AliExpress offer good buyer protection these days, and if sent via their standard mail service, has a very low chance of attracting a customs charge.
In nearly 10 years of using AE, I have only had one claim go against me, and one claim where the seller played the returns system, leaving me out of pocket..

This one from AliExpress has the max output of 21V 3.3A and should comfortably charge 12V 3A laptop.

I seems that the powerbanks are only giving 11.9 V. Not sure if the laptop is needing 12V+. I have tried using the variable voltage facility of QC 3.0 but can't get over 11.9 with my powerbanks. If you find a working solution let us know.

taking a further look into the spec & power requirements for your Pro-3, 12v 3A (36W) 3.5mm DC jack is the standard PSU output, you'll probably find the above item going into over-current/Auto-off mode...
if you're feeling a little tech savvy, you could get some "TP4056 protected" chargers, a "6 18650 diy power bank" and the boost circuits above (2nd link).
bridge the inputs of 2 TP4056 modules and also the outputs to the batteries which will be in parallel... this should allow up to 2.4A charging if the power supply can handle it.
bridge inputs for 3 or 4 boost modules in parallel, diode the output to a 0.5R resistor (i'd use 0.5 Ohm of wire here) on each boost module, bridge the opposite side of the resistors for output... ensure the output voltage is as exact as possible with each module when under load (use multimeter in Mv), although the modules are rated at 2A Max output each, they'll get warm without heatsinks... so adding more modules will share the work and allow a higher working current while still running cool.
fit it in the empty 6 X 18650 power bank case and fill what space is left with old laptop batteries... you'll need to add a switch somewhere to turn off the boost modules to prevent discharge, no switch between batteries &TP4056... also make sure you use adequate copper wire for battery to booster & output connections.
and if you did all that, you just made your own car battery booster with 8A peak, battery protection & thermal shutdown... but for a 3A laptop, it won't even get warm. (unless you only use 2/3 batteries).

I would unequivocally second the word of caution from @WizardOfWelshness on careful use of 18650 batteries. Li-ion batteries don't take kindly any form of abuse. It is always recommended to use them in cases that have battery protection circuits built in.

If you would like to discuss in detail the options you try out, open a discussion in the Forums. I'm sure many here would be happy to help.

something like this might work depending on the current draw from your laptop, it will supply 12v at 1.3A (9v at 2.2A or 15v 1A) but this is the casing & electronics only, NO BATTERIES.
it takes the same batteries as found inside most laptops (18650 Li-Ion, in pairs & chain of 3, when they go bad it's almost always only 1 pair gone bad)
They can be dangerous, Lithium batteries can explode or catch fire if shorted so taking apart old laptop batteries should only be done with great care and extreme caution.
if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, you could take this to your local computer shop and ask them put put some used batteries in there for you (as they normally get thrown out)... you can buy brand new 18650 cells but they cost a small fortune.
use a phone charger (micro USB) to recharge the power bank, you'll need a 5.5mm-2.1mm adapter for your laptop if it doesn't take that plug.

if that current output doesn't work for you, you might be getting into "jump starter" territory... at which prices i'd rather make my own booster circuit with these. aliexpress.com/ite…tml

Thanks. Would that be possible though considering the laptop uses a 12v …Thanks. Would that be possible though considering the laptop uses a 12v supply and USB is capped at 5v?

Depends on the power ratings. What are the voltage and current ratings on the laptop power supply and the laptop? Usually these are mentioned in the product labels. Given the above discussion I'm assuming the voltage rating of both is 12V. What about the current rating? (Power = Voltage x Current)

Also what is the maximum output current of your powerbank at 5V? Again, should be stated on the product label.

i.e. a powerbank I have has output ratings of 5V/2.4A max. That's 12W. It could be used to power a device needing 12V input as long as the device had an input current demand less than 1A (12W/12V).

Another option would be to buy one of these (AliExpress) along with some 18650 batteries and use it as backup power for your laptop.

If you Google the issue you'll see many posts about it, so you're not alone.

Anyone know if the issue has been fixed yet? I miss my phone
