If your on a budget, don't assume your Ryzen AM4 motherboard will run this. You might be lucky and able flash the bios but compatibility isn't guaranteed. Also this does not have an intergrated graphics chip so will require a separate graphics card. I would rather spend an extra £3 and buy the AMD Ryzen 7 5700G which has an intergrated graphics chip. What GARBAGE advice. AMD has been fully supporting the 5000 series CPUs on almost every AM4 platform (including b350 MBs) for some time now. Now how can you find out if your MB has the required BIOS update. While certain fools will try to tell you "you might be lucky", luck has NOTHING to do with it. Google your MB (hint: get results from reddit) and discover the truth.

No-one should buy the 5700G unless they need the iGPU. And at 65W the much cheaper 5600 runs essentially level with the 5700 in single and multi-thread. Of course the 5700 can be given more juice and will beat the 5600 then.

If you want to know whether your motherboard is compatible
for an BIOS upgrade. All you need to do is enter your motherboard
make and model number into google, with the word support after it.
When the results come up, click on the manufacturer of your motherboard.
That should take you directly to your motherboard support page. If it
doesn't, go to your motherboard manufacturers website, and search for your
motherboard within that website. Click on the support option for your
motherboard. Which will then take you to another web page, which will
display the support software links for your motherboard. And a link to a
manual to download too, if you need it.
It's also a good idea to bookmark that support page, because you will need
    it in future.
Note that the graphics chip on the AMD Ryzen 7 5700G is very basic.
The graphics on the 5700G processor is equivalent to an AMD RX 550.
And are only suitable for playing older, less demanding games.
The CPU performance of the AMD Ryzen 7 5700X and 5700G is very similar.

The cpu performance is not similar. Stop giving fake news

Would this be a decent upgrade from ryzen 5 3600 on a msi b450 tomahawk max with rtx 2060 super?

Just get a 5600 this is overkill

Isn't the i5-12400F better and cheaper?

Will I see any difference in gaming if I replace my r5 2600 with this (paired with a 3060ti)?
    toge's avatar
Massively if you have a good monitor like a 144hz+

Decent upgrade from a 3700x or not bother? I game and do some productivity/photo editing
    Pyro88's avatar
    I don't think it's worth the upgrade - I considered it as I also have the 3700x.

Would this be much better than 5600g?

Interesting purchase for me, marks a point in life but I do seem to buy things I can ill afford unfortunately. I might read this site less, hope no-one minds. I'm on facebook etc.

Take care. Income this month will just cover this expense I feel and more but a little silly early this morning. I'll just type I have my excuse(s).
