8GB of RAM is a joke in 2023. I am using a cheap Lenovo, where I upgraded the ram to 32GB ram. Does most of what I need, including 4k video editing and blender. Many phones even have more than 8GB of RAM. Its a joke!

For 99.9% of people buying this base model laptop, 8GB is perfectly fine, please remember it’s not comparable to PC RAM which isn’t as efficient. If you want to do a lot of 4k video editing as well as 3D work, you should be looking at the higher spec models anyway. As a side note, I’ve done 4k 10 bit video editing on my wife’s older M1 MacBook Air which has 8GB RAM without issues.

DONT BUY this crap - I bought one, the screen cracked on it's own within few days.
It's not worth the risk for this kind of money, Apple are quite dodgy on accepting responsibility and there is even class action suit on them for this same issue on MBA-M1 models

Steer well clear of the 256gb, wayyyy slower than the larger drives

This is true apparently. The 512GB is the M2 Air to get, whereas the M1 256GB performs better (I think?).
