Anyone tried this sort of thing? I currently have a Sub but they're discontinuing the kegs for it so looking for an alternative and this might be worth a punt at this low price.

I have the original Fizzics one this is a copy of and they are good but a bit of a faf and the novelty soon wears off. The link in the press release to the Lakeland one is what I have.

You plug mine into a USB charger plug to power it. The top comes off with a metal tube to insert into the bottle/can of beer then put top back on and dispense the beer. It sucks the beer up and uses an ultrasonic pulse to create a really foamy draft beer head.

Careful when get to end as it spits foam out as the beer runs out. Can fit up to 1L cans in mine from memory but this looks a bit thinner so may only take standard 330, 440, 500, 568 jobs. Maybe 660ml.

To clean just stick a pint glass of warm/hot water in and pull it through into another empty one.

For this price it's good. For the £100+ mine was not so much. It was a gift. (edited)

When did opening a can and pouring it into a glass become so difficult?

    After about 8 cans.

    How does this work?

So this will end up in the cupboard,as you say it's a bit of a novelty. (edited)

The Lakeland one runs on USB or AA batteries, making it portable

It works using sound waves and fluid dynamics to achieve the perfect pint. Once you’ve poured most of your beer, push the handle backward (away from you) to begin the ‘sonication process’, applying sound waves to convert the beer’s natural carbonation into a deliciously creamy micro-foam, giving your beer an aesthetically pleasing head. These uniform, tiny-sized bubbles create the perfect density that delivers the enhanced aroma and flavour, making your favourite tipple taste better than ever

They've got one in my local club and use it particularly for Guinness as it gives a decent pour from a can and much cheaper for them than installing all the Guinness branded pumps etc.
    nate2442's avatar
Are they using regular Guiness cans or surger cans?

Reckon I'll invest the £25 in beer and keep pouring my own.

Just picked one up at my local store, few people looking at them when I got in, picked mine up for a Fathers Day present

Got 1, will be trying it later. It's very light and is fully plastic so doesn't feel like much. But at £25 it's less than half the price of the exact same item under a different badge elsewhere. Even comes with 2 batteries in the box which was good. Probably worth the £25 Aldi price (pending test), but certainly not worth the £55+ it's going for on Amazon.

Agreed, just bought one is it ig great. Very simple but effective!

Tried it, funny it pours slower than the online vids show it pouring. Mixed thoughts really, it works exactly as it should and pours and gives a decent head as I was hoping for. But it just feels somewhat cheap & like it could and should be pumping the beer out faster than it does and thats despite using the alkaline batteries than came with it.

Also early tests on just the lager whilst ging a decent head, the head goes quickly which I was not expecting. Maybe it was that particular beer I dont know, will try again tomorrow with something different

Will I continue to use it?, yet all the time, doubt it, time will tell.

Another gizmo destined to find its way to the darkest corner of your cupboard.
After you've had a few beers though.

Can\bottle size limit of 500ml feels a little restrictive if using pint glasses and want that full 1 pint glass, though of cause smaller beer glasses are avsilable. However, the Fizzics it's suggested this is a clone of can take at least 660ml bottles looking at the YouTube reviews for that. Though as pointed out, this does look slimmer, but maybe the height is the same?. That said here in the UK, certainly Aldi whose selling it 99% of their cans & bottles are either 330, 440 or 500ml, so maybe they've simply not sized it up or tested full 1 pint cans\bottles or bigger as no reason to. But if it takes 500ml bottles it should certainly take a full pint can as a 500ml bottle would be taller than a can anyway.
  17. David_WilliamsIuA's avatar
Also, I was thinking about this item and was talking to a friend about it today and we both came to pretty much the same conclusion. In that as the beer is effectively fed through a vibrating (sonic pulse) pump line, that if the size of the can\bottle limit leaves you frustrated that it should be easy to hack this and fit a line extension to the internal pipe and feed that into any size beer containing vessel you want. But just try to keep to the same width line as the internal pipe, or just a touch wider.

Though not knowing what the limits of the pump ability itself is we feel anything over several feet long might struggle to pump at the original speed. But yeah, as a device for foaming and pumping beer seems a steel for the price when it's an identical copy of something costing 2-4 times the price.

Other that that, the only other options are the more portable devices that fit directly on the can\bottle top and pour it from there to foam, yet they are pretty much the same price as this.

So, who is going to get one tomorrow?
  19. solomongrundy's avatar
These are rubbish. Threw mine, albeit a diiferent brand name. Might as well just of poured a can into a glass. If you want a proper pub pint, then get a perfect draft. If you want a superior pint to what the pub can offer, buy a Heineken Blade.
  20. WelshCai's avatar
Is this any good for cider?
    Gstar2006's avatar
pointless as cider shouldn't have a head
  21. MLAM's avatar
I tried to use a 330ml bottle and it doesn't fit so this is cans only unless you got a stumpy bottle, going to try a can of Guinness in a bit.
  22. David_WilliamsIuA's avatar
Tried a stumpy bottle yesterday, works fine. Though frustrating & annoying that standard 500ml bottles are to tall, maybe even a pint can might be a touch to tall to then guess.

That it doesn't take standard sized 500ml bottles feels a little crazy and restrictive seeing as the fizzics apparently does and even bigger, upto 660 ml. Feels like they have cut corners to fit the price point with this and made it smaller than it ideally should be and not universal by restricting it to no more than 500ml cans or 250\330ml bottles.

Even tried simply resting the main unit on top of a 500ml bottle to test, wouldn't pump a drop so maybe there is a seal valve for this in order for it to work?. But going to look at finding out for sure and play around with it as might be able to hack it of sorts as a despenser if it doesn't require a seal around the housing to despense.

As the alternative is a more handheld version that simply clips on top of any sized can or bottle to do the same thing.
  23. David_WilliamsIuA's avatar
Definitely seems to only work requiring a seal on the housing unit, though a little unsure why it might need to work on this basis.

Though thinking that the quality of the seal affects the dispense speed. And no rubber seal that I can see suggests it could be more capable than it is if you can maybe improve the seal with ptfe take or such.

Think you'll find it pressurises the can holder cavity thus forcing the liquid up the tube. There's a clear rubber grommet in the centre of the top section that blows air out when in operation. It does have a rubber seal - it's sitting around the circumference of where the body twists onto the base. Look at it in side profile and you'll make it out, it's a mini 'skirt'
