Woh, you must really count the pennies to go to all that effort for 20p profit.
Take it to GAME and if they take it you could get £2.30
.... kidding. Nice deal though
evrrything i have bought off zoverstocks / estocks / music magpie, if stated new it is usually shrinkwrapped
or if no shrinkwrap the disc doesnt look like its been played.
Completely true, they buy them in dirt cheap used, and ones which look in good condition they just shrink wrap themselves.
They are on Play as well.
Because they sell so much, they work on a low profit margin, and negative feedback gets hidden over all the good ones, also if you are a big seller on Amazon/Play/Ebay etc, you often get neg feedback removed by them cause you making them so much money.
So on Music Magpie they will pay £1.02 for The Hurt Locker Bluray, they then re-shrinkwrap it, and sell it on for £1.98 on ebay with estocks, they work on very small margins, but with all the feedback they get, they can then make more money on other items which they get in for pennies.
And of course no VAT paid, they pay less fees on Amazon, Ebay and Play than your normal sellers of course. Its a clever business model to be fair, even if a bit dishonest
A few have had problems - damaged cases, wrong item, missing items (in collectors editions for example). The majority they refunded no problem.
One item however, which was a Wii game...they said send back...so I did...and then they claimed they never received it.
Because the item was freepost, it didn't meet Royal Mail's 'criteria' for claims. So I was left out of pocket, with no game.
Luckily it wasn't a huge amount, but still...bad experience.
They do pay vat but they operate under a special vat scheme where they only pay vat on any net profit they make on it each item sold. They can do this as they buy the products second hand from private individuals.
When is an item no longer New!, I'd say if a media item (cd, dvd, BR) is in shrinkwrap, purchased from a defunct business for example blockbuster, hmv or a record film company with surplus stock to offload to musicmagpie
then it is new stock.
I sincerely hope they are not taking just any old stock in and shrinkwrapping it.
That really is bad practise, and trading standards need to be made aware.
I buy a lot from zoverstocks, and if I have been lucky enough to get an item shrinkwrapped the disc has been brand new unplayed
One missed call is supposed to be really bad but for £1.10 you can then get £1.30 exchange at cex.

totally illegal.
social network is not 1.49 but 8.23 new delivered.
The second item was the wrong item, so again I contacted them, and have had no reply. They've also removed this item, blocking me from leaving feedback.
Round about the same time, they seemed to be getting a lot of negative feedback on eBay. Which is a shame, as they have a CD way cheaper that I want that is way cheaper than anywhere else, but once bitten, twice shy, and all that.

Yes they shrinkwrap them as well. The discs are still products they have purchased second hand.
I'm not talking about the odd item being sold as new when it is really a used disc. They process thousands every day like this.
finally another hukd who understands second hand VAT and explained perfectly...
VAT only applies to new items, hence the charge on net profit.
next we'll be told second hand car dealers don't pay VAT, lol.
[hence new cars depreciate so quickly]
All new films in HMV are sealed at the factory. Very rarely have I seen a shop item sold opened. Returns and rental stock are sold in Fopp, HMV's bargain outlet, who have a "try and return" policy if not happy.
If you try Music Magpie/zover/estocks, they sell for massive makups and buy for pennies. Hence the most successful online retailer by profit.
