The Lost Lad is Calibre’s budget-friendly adventure road bike. Great for your first bikepacking adventure or the daily commute.

Load it up with panniers and mudguards for an urban ride or strap a tent and a bivvy to it and head out on an overnight adventure in the wilderness. On the Lost Lad you can tackle any roads, tracks or towpaths that you come across.

Calibre developed the Lost Lad to make adventure biking and all-road riding accessible to anyone. It’s a simple and versatile bike that opens-up new possibilities for riders on a budget. Based on the gravel bike concept, you can use this dependable workhorse commuting to work to work, doing overnight bothy missions with mates, or just for local after work loops on bridleways and towpaths.

The Lost Lad is equipped with relaxed, confidence-inspiring geometry typical of every Calibre. Paired with comfortable, grip-sure tyres and enough mounting points for all your bike-packing gear (and the kitchen sink), the Lost Lad is ready for longer coast-to-coast rides too.

It’s Calibre's version of a road bike, not necessarily about all-out speed but designed to be fun, practical and get you out riding and exploring without breaking the bank.

Feature Highlights

Gravel Bike design – More comfortable and versatile than traditional road bikes.

WTB Horizon tyres – Wide and grippy enough to tackle the roughest tracks but also roll fast on the road.

Rack and pack mounts – Fixings that enable you to load the bike with bags for multi-day adventures.

Shimano Claris drive train – Decent shifting and reliable performance in an 8-speed package.

Clarks cable disk brakes – Affordable and easy to maintain disk brakes.

Word of warning. My mate had one and there was no way he could get the front derailleur set up correctly. Neither could Go Outdoors. They were quite happy to offer a refund or credit against another bike but it was faff having to make the 50 mile round trip. Guy in the shop suggested it wasn't uncommon with this model.

I have this (posted the deal last time it was on sale)

No issue with adjusting the front derailleur for me. Only pain is theres no thumb screw for fine adjustment so it takes a bit of faff to get the tension right.

Just undo the cable so there's no tension, put the chain on the small ring front & big ring back, adjust the limit screw so there's no rub, tension the cable and tighten, shift to the big cog front & small cog rear, adjust other limit screw til no rub.

If you can't get rid of the rub in the last step you need more tension. If it starts to rub while on the small ring you need less tension.

Might never get rid of all the rub but just pick which end your gunna be in more and adjust for no rub there.

There's a few steps of 'click' at the lever so you can micro adjust the front derailleur depending on where you are in the rear cassette.

The back story is a bit macabre....
    en.m.wikipedia.org/wik…Lad

"Lost Lad is actually the name of the cairn at the top, whose name refers to a legend about a shepherd boy from the lost village of Derwent. According to the legend the boy became lost on the moors in a blizzard and died. His body was found the following spring by a passing shepherd and nearby were the words "Lost Lad" written on a rock."

    Hi,
do you have the current model or the discontinued version?
I’m trying to work out if all the issues are with the discontinued version that looks very similar.

    Any good? Advice please

In theory, yes a nice bike for the cash, but obviously it's a model with issues. If you live near a Go Outdoors and are prepared to risk having to return it and live with a refund it could be worth the risk.
