This one factory seasoned layer is equivalent 10-15 rounds of normal home seasoning. The normal cast iron seasoning we create at home is attained when the fats and oils used in cooking collect on the cast iron.

This makes our cast iron cookware completely ready to be used straight out of the box. No initial seasoning is required. However; in order to maintain the factory-seasoned cast iron layer you need to season it from time to time. Factory seasoning is just a kick-start to your cookware’s seasoning life. Not to forget that seasoning is an on-going course. A desirable shiny black surface requires regular use and good maintenance.

    I've got DeBuyer steel frying pans (general use), plus an enamelled cast iron frying pan (for acidic food) plus Teflon for omelettes etc.

    Would a bare cast iron pan like this add anything over those other options? (edited)

    You are pretty well covered there. Maybe you could use it for searing meat as the temp doesn't drop and fast in cast Vs carbon steel. Good for massive Yorkshire puddings too.

    I bought this pan last year. I'd recommend to strip the rubbish pre-seasoning off and re-season yourself. it's a great pan, good heat distribution and cooks fatty steaks or burgers amazing. I paid full price and at full price I'm happy with the purchase.

    whats the best way to strip the factory seasoning off? Can you just leave it on and go through the seasoning process on top of it?
