So no one can use this?

I wouldn't, to be fair. Crash it once, break something, then it's a bin job. Spend a few quid extra and get a Tamiya or something where spares are readily available.

You can get loads of spares for these from AliExpress if needed.. alternatives in the same price range would be the HBX 16889 (FTX Tracer), the MJX Hyper Go, the SG116 and the HBX 2105a. Most of these are available with brushed and brushless motors. If you look at the HBX 16889a Pro version, it has already been upgraded from factory with oil shocks etc. loads of videos on YouTube hammering them and they can sustain a fair bit of abuse before any breakages. Additionally, they can all be trimmed down on the handset to allow younger users to play with them at a lower speed!

You seem pretty clued up. I have a HPI nitro bullet I bought around a decade ago from new, spent more time trying to start the thing than driving it. Had a few attempts over the years, but it's just been sat in the attic since.

I want to give an electric car a try, because I've never really got to enjoy my nitro or any RC car for that reason. I want it to be fast, but tbh good acceleration as I'll be taking it to the woods/park. I also don't want to break the bank - and from memory of my HPI, I crashed it a fair few times. Would a £150 budget be reasonable?

These are pretty good to be honest. Common parts like suspension arms can be easily replaced, if you totally write one off... As my son has by using it on a skatepark on jumps... It's less painful then him breaking a £200+ car.
They're pretty quick too. Smaller models are faster than the bigger ones as they use the same motors.

IMO this is a hobby where you need to be prepared to replace parts. This applies to premium brands as well as aliexpress copies. People throwing them away when a piece of plastic snaps is abit daft. Just be sure to get a brand that has spare parts and enjoy. If something breaks then repair or replace (or upgrade) the part..
wltoys and FTX ones have been good for me, very cheap upgrade parts.

I'm sure you can buy these or one's very similar on Ali Express for about £40 ish

Yeah these will likely be from the same factory with a 'brand' and profit margin slapped on

Got similar thing 3-4 Years ago bought from eBay i paid £40 ish Bought 2 x for kids
After 2 month both cars rear / front differential broke
Now to get rear / front differential part metal "if remember 15-25 for metal differential " plastic do not hold the torque from DC brusheless motor and you need 2 of them to fix per car
So cars gone to skip because was thinking can repair but repair plastic gears was temporary fix
it was fun say 2 month was really fast car

Problem is very powerful motor it is good for fun but if the parts are plastic they break very easy
To get metal parts car different money maybe instead of £40 will be £300 etc ....

Why it broke --Kids put car to say to wall / still position and then full throttle to spin the wheels
The wheel dig the hole but not for long before deferential gears broke

    Just my review
Before buy check if you can get the spare parts . (edited)

The wltoys range is a good choice as there's plenty of replacement parts available even 3rd party ones. Plastic and metal parts

Go Nikko if they exist still, HPI or Traxxas

Video review here. TLDW: A brushed, upgradeable car with very bouncy oil shocks. Good for starters
