For anyone else like me that bought this recently from Dell at a higher price. You can raise a support ticket and ask them to enforce their 30 price promise guarantee. I got £50 odd refunded within 48 hours. Very simple and quick process.

Hi, can you please confirm there are 2x RAM slots present?

Good price. £315 is ‘par’ for a 5500U machine but that’s usually a 60Hz screen and 255gb SSD.

So below £300 with 512gb and 120Hz is good.

The screen is only 250 nits so dim in daylight that’s probably the major downside.

Edit: Ohhh and it’s 1x8gb stick rather than 2x4gb - so no dual channel RAM which is a negative - (extra edit) noting that obviously you can add a 2nd 8gb stick yourself to these models (in case anyone didn’t realise this which judging by some replies I’d shouldn’t have assumed people knew this).

I notice for £100 more there is a 16gb/1tb version which is a decent spec for below £400. (edited)

Would this be more than adequate for home working, and browsing on net etc?
Also, is RAM easily upgradeable and where could I purchase an extra 8gb stick from?
    Thank you

I know it is no longer available at the price, but please could someone suggest how this dell compares to this Asus I've linked which I nearly purchased a couple of weeks ago hotukdeals.com/dea…594

The processor is quite a bit better on the Asus and you will get better graphics performance with the iGPU. Otherwise very similar, this has a slightly better screen being 120Hz, but in all honesty the screens at 250 Nit, will not win awards on either machines.

Have some more heat op, as this was everything I was looking for in a laptop, at a great price, however, it's worth having a double check of the specs.

Note: Maximum resolution supported over HDMI port is 1920x1200 @60 Hz

Which is really annoying for those who use a 27" 2k or 4k display to mitigate the low brightness on the laptops display, and sadly kills it for me.

Can someone please suggest which is better
This or Samsung Galaxy Book3 15.6" Laptop (NP750XFG-KA2UK)

    currys.co.uk/pro…tml

Which I can get for £475

The main thing the Samsung is has got a great screen and portable, but the biggest issue with it that it has 8GB non-gradable RAM. This machine has a poorer screen but at least the RAM is expandable. You get less disk space with the Samsung, but that can be expanded on both. The Samsung has a more powerful processor.

    Any good for football manager?

    It is Great.
FM is not GPU intensive, it is more CPU and memory intensive. I would expand the memory to at least 16GB.

Incredible deal on a solid machine. 👌 and yes for extra £100 or £200 you can get a laptop with better specs but for the money this is a great buy.

Getting quite good at posting information about this laptop now. Absolutely one of the best buys I've made since frequenting HUKD.

Popped 32GB of Crucial RAM in it, apparently it will take 64. Running a 2TB WD SN770 in place of the diddy (2230) drive, you just need to remove the heatsink/cover as otherwise it won't fit.

If you are upgrading anything you might as well put an Intel AX210 WiFi card in as well, about £17 off of eBay and it'll take you up to WiFi 6E/Bluetooth 5.3.

It'll happily play older games at decent settings, I've spent far too many hours on Skyrim (high settings) recently. It does run hot when playing though, one thing I did get was a Targus laptop cooler and using that it doesn't even get hot enough to max out the fans in the laptop.

This laptop was on a deal a couple of months ago at about £230 through student/NHS which was an absolutr steal. This deal is great too.

I have noticed a big problem on dell laptops. Touchpad starts having problems after a few days of usage. This is my 2nd laptop with the exact same problem. I am using wireless mouse and it works fine but when I try to use the touchpad on laptop, it starts freezing or unresponsive most of the time. Anyone else having the same problem??

How much does this weigh? And what's the battery life like? And can it charge over usb c

    Thank you
    dominickthedonkey's avatar
As far as I know it doesn't charge through USB C, data transfer only. Its pretty light in weight, the correct weight should be somewhere on the specs on the site, battery for me lasts about 3 hours or so however I've never properly bothered to check exact time as I normally have it plugged in.
