Mini cruise from Newcastle to Amsterdam £30 with DFDS Seaways
Found 12th OctFound 12th Oct
Price based on 2 people sharing, return. Selected departures until 29 Dec. Book by 14 Dec.

Takes about 18 hours to get there, you take a 2 hour coach ride to amsterdam, you get about 4-5 if your lucky on motorway traffic. Food on the ship is about 39-50 pp each meal

You sleep on the ferry 2 nights and I love Amsterdam so I'm going to call it a cruise :-) Wouldn't thank you for a trip on one of the big cruise ships that travel round ruining small island economies with a load of people who think they have made it because they spent £8k on a holiday lol

A long ferry crossing is now marketed as a mini cruise? Can I interest you in tickets to the London M25 slow car parade? Perhaps the Heathrow cavity check? Free background checks included and the opportunity to upgrade to the intensive conversation package. Or maybe my patented wallet weight loss plan? How secure is your internet banking? We can test it!

Oh I do like a smoke and a pancake <3

Darn, wish I'd seen this earlier! £221 return for a week at the end of August... but am sure it'd be more of I left it any longer! Thanks for posting x

Wish i knew if my VW transporter is classed as a car or van. Vans are £119 each way :( but the Transporter was converted into a disabled vehicle and has PLG on the V5 doc.

What dates did you book ?

Great price for summer sailings. Managed to get an £85 return in last years sale and enjoyed the trip. Would definitely do this route again.

should have added £49 is for a car and 2 people one way

Loved these cheap deals when I lived up that way and worked at Longbenton. Had a great laugh getting tanked on the ferry then floating round the dam for the day and overnight boat back. Yes it's quicker to fly but the ferry makes it more relaxing

You hire people for the half term? (highfive)

Ive done this trip a good few times (the terminal is only 5 minutes from my house)........YES there is a duty free shop on the boat and it stocks the usual cigs, tobacco, perfumes ,,,drink etc..... One tip, take some cans with you as the bar proces have jumped up......buy a legit drink at the bar and then go for a wander outside for a cig....then come back with your glass full, if you get my drift ;)

Transfers from the ferry terminal to Amsterdam cost more than the crossing!

Yup! Been on this boat 20+ times. Everytime has been an absolute hoot! I almost prefer the time on the boat than I do the 3-4 hours you get in Amsterdam. EDIT: Don't be put off tho. There's plenty of stuff to keep the kids entertained. Not sure if Vicky The Pirate is still on it but she used to take all the kids around the boat and keep them amused.

We went earlier on this year midweek and it was very pleasant. I think if you go Friday or Saturday it maybe a different, but you also won't get the cheap prices then either. Food is expensive on board, but we thought the drinks prices were just about normal pub prices so not too bad. As I have said in a previous post watch out for the Maritime phone coverage. We were charged £120 for my wife and 2 kids who's phone's accidently latched onto their signal and Facebooked for around 5 mins!

What is night time to them

But I can't go back in time, so that makes this a good deal.

I'll do the maths for you: £29 rtn = £14.50 e/w - good deal! £30 one way = more than double the old PO offer. I know it's an abstract concept but I've done my best to explain.

Used DFDS year before last having used Brittany Ferries in the past. My only advice is take a pack lunch with you. The food on the crossing is the very worst microwave meals and hideously expensive.

True, it is quite overpriced. I remember paying like £3 for a can of coke lol.

You can do that anywhere in the UK too much cheaper. Way overpriced Amsterdam and once you have been there twice you have sort of done it and have no need to return.

Why? You can smoke awesome weed there and have junk food. What else do you want?

No need there's free seating

Daft question, do you have to book a cabin? If you don't is there sufficient seating?

Voted hot for the stupid calais remarks by some.

I've done Calais a few times this year actually. that nightmare journey was at night so I suppose it was my fault for travelling at that time? Any I don,t need that hassle and my preference is this route, yours is clearly Calais- each to their own. Hopefully this deal will help some, clearly not you!

Think you've been watching to many TVs programs.all this apparently only started this year and as you put the same deal on last year you clearly haven't been through Calais this year. Looking at pictures and getting someone to read the daily mail is fair enough. If you drive a wagon on the the back roads past the jungle at 3am with a TVs film crew in tow what do you expect. Drive the normal routes into Calais port and you will see police patrols every 500 yards

Good price but it's nowhere near enough city time, one time I went there was a problem and people were left with one hour in the city.

You'll be through border control in North Shields by about 9.30am ish and if you get the bus to Newcastle it'll be there by about 10.30am

So you've been on the ferry once and claim to have seen it happen, therefore it happens all the time? They have no need to search your bags upon entry to the ship for booze. They do have reason to stop you drinking your own booze in their bars, but you could take what you liked on board and drink it in your own cabin if you so wished. Wallsend? No, other side of the Royal Quays - there you go making assumptions again. So you go to Amsterdam, go shopping, get a few bottles of rare/unusual Belgian beers to bring home, and board the ferry for the return journey - are they going to search your bags and confiscate it? Don't talk rubbish.

I'm sure as a Wallsend lad called monkeyhanger your a real upstanding citizen! I haven't been searched but I have seen it happen on my only trip. I don't believe what your saying and neither should anyone else.

In my experience I have never been searched nor seen anyone else searched on embarkation, on many trips there - what is completely wrong about sharing my experiences? Maybe you just look a bit shifty? They should only be concerned with you drinking booze they haven't supplied when in their bars.

Really? I've flown several times to Amsterdam and would never ever go on the boat again. They do search you, maybe not every person but I have seen it happen with my own eyes so for you to just say outright "no" is completely wrong.

Done that trip more than a dozen times (live less than 2 miles from the terminal) and never been searched for booze, nor have anyone I have ever travelled with.

Going at 5pm, returning 7pm same day no doubt :) Never seen them that cheap without Tesco vouchers!

Managed to get our ferry for three weeks' time cheaper by using the P&O Daily Mail promotion (ewww) and getting a £22 return 'overnight' fare from Dover to Calais. We're just not using the return leg, and then we're coming back from Dunkerque via DFDS. Slightly convaluted but got peak time fares for £66 return!

I've crossed with P&O a few times for less than £25 return. DFDS seems to be consistently significantly more expensive offers or not. Why would anyone bother with them?

Thanks! Just booked for about £40 less than the prices last week.

How long does that ferry journey take on the cold north sea?

I got flights and hotel for £200 for 4 nights in Amsterdam (10th - 14th january). I'd much rather go for four nights and pay £100 each than £39 for 5 hours and the flight is only 80 minutes

I've done this mini cruise 3 times now plus 1 time with a night in hotel. great price the dearest I've ever paid was 40. people complain about only 5 hours but where else can you go for a city with 2 nights accommodation for 30 quid! would cost me 30 quid just the journey to and from Newcastle!

sounds like a ferry crossing with a few extras. not sure if this is actually a special deal or not, so not voting.

Only departure is from Newcastle so you have to add that to the journey as well. Two daily sailing in rough seas on a cold day on a 1 hr flight from a local airport. Know which one I would chose and flights can be found very cheap. Although Amsterdam is the main airport in Holland there are other small airports dotted around the country depending on which place you want to visit. The flower fields are so amazing but a bit early yet, night clubbers go to Amsterdam and the typical Dutch villages are great places. Having lived there for 12 years I have probably seen it all but wouldn't mind going back again for a short trip. The Dutch are quite friendly compared to other places and I so fancy a patat special (chips special) to those who don't know is a portion of chunky chips served in a cone and topped with mayo, ketchup, raw chopped onions, hot peanut sauce and maybe some spicy brown sauce or if you are really brave try some of the raw fish but you have to be dutch to be able to slick it down in one go!!! Keep the cameras ready for a bit of fun. There are also many other attractions to visit in Holland so worth staying a few days. Don't forget you will need Euros and anyone without an EU passport will also require a visa.

The visiting time in Amsterdam is the secondary aim of this trip on DFDS ferries - primarily it's 2 nights out in a floating bar, if you know this upfront then you won't be disappointed.

My partner went on a trip like this with her family. They had a horrible time. Sea sickness, very little time in Amsterdam, you spend nearly 2 days on a horrible ferry and very little time there. Worst "holiday" they had ever been on. You have been warned. Still they paid a damn sight more than this so not knocking the deal!

I see the DFDS Ferry passing my living room window every evening on its way out of the Tyne - it was extremely late coming in today - rough seas last night! Was on a particularly rough crossing in Dec 2011, and I managed to get one pint in before I was spewing my guts up. Bad all night. On a calm crossing it can be a laugh on the ship, but i'd rather take a KLM flight from Newcastle airport in the winter for about £70 each way and stay over.

Can take your own food and drink as long as it's drank in your room (so simply go back to your room to fill your class with vodka)

Just been on Tuesday, we took own food and mini fridge nothing was said know your not allowed eating and drinking your own in public areas. We didn't know we were at sea it was that calm

Could anyone that had taken this confirm that you can take your own food?Do they check your bags? Thanks

A regular deal in the quiet season (try getting those prices July/August). I live 2 miles from the DFDS ferry and have used it regularly - wouldn't chance it this time of the year though. If the sea is rough there's nothing worse. I have a cast-iron stomach, yet I was chucking up my first and only pint of the night within 10 mins of the ship leaving the Tyne on a particularly rough crossing. This trip is more about 2 nights out on the ship rather than the trip to Amsterdam which will generally see you there only 5 and a half hours. The entertainment is so bad that it's good (think Phoenix nights).

this place is right at the border. Don't know how, but they always have cheaper diesel. For comparison I use: http://www.prix-carburants.gouv.fr/ Carrefour is the cheapest but you if ever find yourself around the area, check them out, you will be surprised :)

Cigarette prices are regulated in Belgium, so there won't be much variation between shops. But some give a good exchange rate if you pay in pounds. As for fuel, I'm surprised the diesel price is better than France. Taxes mean average Belgian diesel is about €1.45 /l compared to €1.30 /l in France. http://www.fuel-prices-europe.info/

Duinkerkekeiweg 22 8660 De Panne, Belgium 51.069814, 2.560780 This is the place on google maps! It is usually cheaper than any Carrefour. I know 100% sure that on diesel is (only had diesels). I think this is the one that LesD is talking about as well ;)
