Heat added, it's good stuff, but seems to go off after 6 months or so - use it asap. I have it around the bottom of the flue in our log burner, seems to do the job quite well. I mix it with some carbon powder so that it's black and blends in nicely.
However, on that stage it needs to be pointed afterwards, and after some time you just brush it off the lose grains... (edited)
