Is there law or rule which stops me from getting some cheapest internal flight one way ticket, go to that nearest airport where i booked that ticket, buy all my duty free allowances, have "no show", miss flight and just go home with goodies? 🤫🤭 🤪🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️
    eetsteamleader's avatar
Yes, you have to show your boarding card to purchase and it must be on a flight going outside the UK

If going to America, I will advise buying on your way out. The liquor I wanted last weekwas £13 at LHR, yet at JFK before I came home it was $29

Useful for stocking the minibar on holiday.
Right now I'm in Norway enjoying a double Gordon's Gin, and waiting for the midnight sun.
Drink prices are crazy stupid in Nordic countries. This way I'm saving an absolute packet with a £12 bottle of gin.

I wouldn't even bother doing this to bring back home.

They had Deadmans for £23 for two bottles at Liverpool last Wednesday

Just bought JJ Whitley Vodka 1 litre on 2 for £19 offer at Gatwick. No brainer everyone’s a winner!
    Pualle's avatar
You will feel like you have no brain if you consume them as a 2 for 1 and drink two shots every time you fancy one.

So to take this home you'd have to carry on holiday? U can't pick up on return?

Unfortunately not. Just leave in your hotel room and bring back I'm afraid

Don't forget to pack a strong bag otherwise you'll be charged by them for a bag
    t3r4's avatar
Airport stores are exempt from the carrier bag charge. Also I believe for alcohol in particular they seal the bag as well so you have to take the bag whether you want one or not.
  14. Jagmanx1's avatar
Would airlines have an issue with this? E.g. flying out from Brum to Spain with just cabin baggage and there are restrictions on how many 'bags' you can take
    samspud's avatar
    Author
I'm going with easy jet on Saturday and checked this exact same question. They say they allow duty free ON TOP OF and cabin bags you have.

I'd assume most if not all airlines the same

If you pre-order using the reserve & collect service you’ll get 10% off, provided the bottle(s) aren’t already discounted & you’re not flying from Gatwick.
    t3r4's avatar
Wonder why Gatwick is excluded, seems a bit random.

I did exactly this for a recent trip to Geneva, Switzerland. £11 for a litre of Captain Morgan's... could have saved nearly £240 with that one bottle there....

    £78 for 10x 50g GV £335.50 at Tesco ..

Was over £100 at Heathrow in February, decided to chance it and get in USA and was almost half price.

At least this makes up for the having to pay for roaming

2 bottles of Ciroc was £52.36 last week

Do note that some products are not the same as the high street versions.

For example Tanqueray is "export strength" which is 43.1% but the normal one from a supermarket is 47.3%
    Jay080286's avatar
The stronger one from the supermarket is Tanqueray No 10. There isn't a 'normal' one with that strength in supermarkets. Happy to be proven otherwise.

Can buy and collect on way back to UK?

    From where, arrivals?

Can anyone advise on the following - you buy four 1l bottles flying out to tunisia. Tunisia has a 1l bottle limit. Does that mean 1l bought from their duty free store or you can only bring in one bottle from abroad?

1 bottle from abroad per person traveling. Just got to hope they don't check - I never have when going through "nothing to declare"
  23. moelygaer1's avatar
The whisk(e)y offers are pretty dismal imho we travel regularly and they are not what they used to be, trying to recoup their covid losses?
    Dadbid's avatar
It depends what you’re after, imho. I’ve had some very good deals on single malts compared to U.K. prices. Often cheaper & larger bottle sizes. They also have a number of travel exclusives from the likes of Deanston & Balblair that are great additions to my collection.
  24. Dadbid's avatar
Update as I’ve just returned to Gatwick (passport control is an inefficient joke )
The duty free shop after you’ve gone through nothing to declare sells spirits & if you scan the DUFRY QR code at the till you receive the appropriate discount. Another bottle of Deanston 10 Bordeaux cask for my collection at £33.25

Are you saying on the UK side on your return? I don't understand sorry

I wish you could get hold of Gordon’s Yellow Label Gin (the 47.3%) stuff. British Airways used to sell it onboard but have stopped.
