Quality has always been in GUINNESS’ DNA, even back in the 1800s when faced with the challenge of how to maintain the freshness of our beer on long sea voyages. To guarantee the best quality upon arrival, GUINNESS brewers made a porter with more hops and higher gravity. The recipe was a success and was soon shipped far and wide to countries in the Caribbean, America, Africa and South East Asia. Its ancestor, GUINNESS FOREIGN EXTRA STOUT is still sold there today. With origins in an 1801 entry in GUINNESS’ brewers’ diaries, today’s GUINNESS WEST INDIES PORTER was inspired by the first beer purposely brewed at St. James’s Gate to sustain its freshness, wherever it was shipped. The beer is complex yet mellow, hoppy with notes of toffee and chocolate.

  • Alcohol content: 6.0 percent_by_volume
  • Item display volume: 4000.0 milliliters
  • Mellow, rich- bodied & complex with notes of toffee and hops.
  • Pack of 8
  • Brewed in Ireland

Equates to 4p more expensive if you buy 8 from Amazon 0.5p each. This is a deal/money saving website after all. Appreciate you don’t need to buy 8 (edited)

In a nutshell, this drink is Silky smooth, with a nice bite.

It’s not a “session beer”, it’s more for when you just want 1-2 drinks, home alone or maybe with your mate(s) and catching up. You have more than two, and you best be sitting - this Guinness is deceptively strong.

The quality is far better than 90% of pump brew from your local, so dismiss any thoughts about the price - £2 a bottle is a pinch in todays inflated booze market. I’d sooner have one bottle of this than 3-4 cans of Carling or a pint of most draught alcohol.

For porter/ stout fans, it doesn’t get much better than this - although if anyone does know of anything better, please, add suggestions underneath!

Fullers London porter is amazing too. My go to for porter is Guinness West Indies and Fullers. They have it in Waitrose.

I'm intrigued, what is taste like compared to standard Guinness?

These used to be 3 for a fiver at my local shop, then 3 for 5.50, then 3 for 6, don't see it anymore, go to my backups now, Champion and Old Pec ........

Just on my second bottle ice cold.
Lovely taste , love the fact it's more fizzier/hoppier than standard Guinness.
Nice crisp and refreshing , with toffee notes at the end, a proper drink this.
Would also be awsome in a slow cooked stew.

I can order again with the same discount code it seems,😜 (edited)

The Guinness Nigerian Stout is nice as well, with an intense, rich flavour and 7.5%. I agree with you fab, chemical Carling is not for me either.

Arrived today and really not a fan. It tastes like balsamic vinegar.
Going to try again but chilled just above freezing point, will post again with results.

Purchased as seems a decent deal price and ABV% wise.

On a side note, Aldi do a nice coffee stout. Actually tastes ok and of coffee not like some that say they do and don’t live up to their wording. It’s only 5.2% ABV though. This is stronger. It’s £1.69 each so more expensive for 8 (£13.52) but you can buy them individually. (edited)
