It is too big. Why do pilots need big watches?

Pilots needed watches to help them navigate in the early days of flight. They would measure their distance traveled in any given direction by timing themselves at a given speed. The dials, hands and numerals had to be big so they could accurately see the info they needed at a glance. Some early pilot watches were over 50mm with straps long enough to reach around the cuff of their jacket. Not many pilots require a pilot watch in today’s world, but they are still very popular and very nostalgic.
