Dear everything that is sacred- why on Earth would a person not make their OWN vegetable soup?

There are some soups that may be a little difficult to make, the ingredients inconvenient to have at hand, but vegetable soup? Your own homemade veggie soup can be kept in the fridge for a good time, so you don't have to make a silly small quantity with too much 'effort' for the amount you produce.

And the ingredients are cheap- you control them- and you get to master meeting your own taste. Add some beans or lentils to level up. Can even use that Quorn pseudo-'mince' stuff to add protein.

PS a blender is the only advanced tool needed- can do without- but a casual cook wants to reduce time and effort.

    It's 50p if you've got a Nectar card.

Why would you pay £14.97 in cash?

Just back from my local Sainsburys. The shelf had been plundered - just these two sorry looking tins left. Needless to say I didn't bother.

So who is responsible for the extortionate price in the first place? Not one of the 3 companies involved would benefit by subsidising to that extent

I used to work in cash & carry trade when I was younger and placed orders for stock from various companies. They would offer better pricing for bulk buys (pallets or full trunker) and when their warehouses were full more discount and offers/incentives where regular available! If you could house the large stock amounts. Sainsbury's are massive so they would not have a problem, central distribution too so 1 order for all stores you would be amazed by the actual costs of things to the prices we pay🙀 that was back in the 90s....won't have changed much if not better for them and worse for us! Sainsbury's also known for being 20 % more expensive than Asda and alike for same product.....why? (edited)

Just picked up 60 tins, 3 months worth @ 50p. On the shelf it should be 80p a tin.
Have even more heat from me.
    SirHugo's avatar
So do you have 2/3rds of a tin every day??
