Blud's looking for a new laptop for productivity/office/coding (so decent spec but not gaming), and this seems like the best deal to me atm? Posting before buying as hoping for some useful comments!

Pros
- Strong, power-efficient processor
- Backlit keyboard + fingerprint reader + upgraded webcam
- Price
- 16GB RAM/1TB SSD
- Build: metal lid and slim profile

Cons
- Lenovo hinges: have read about this - how big a problem is it?
- RAM is only 3200 DDR4 - anyone know how much this matters for non-gamers?
- Battery 47Wh - is this low?
- Screen 45% NTSC (not 100% sRGB) - is this bad?

Ryzen 7 7730U upgrade available for £60 - worth it?

Any comments on the deal are welcome - and if there's something better value out there for this kind of range, please share!

Is the Slim 3 metal lid? Not had one but thought that was only on Slim 5 machines. Good system for the money though, can’t really fault it - no OS won’t suit everyone as some won’t be able to install it themselves.

I think you can get the 5 for not a lot more?

    To answer your questions:
I’ve never had a Lenovo hinge issue but apparently it exists - you can probably fix yourself if it’s a massive issue.
RAM will be DDR4 on these and it won’t matter, no. Might have a slight impact but this isn’t a gaming system. The 7530U only supports DDR4 and LPDDR4x.
Battery is average but should be ok.
45% NTSC is expected at this kind of level but at least it’s an IPS. Honestly unless you are being picky and have something else side-by-side it’ll be fine and look good. At least it’s 300 nits. (edited)

Just waiting for the guy to comment that 14" screen is too big for travel or use it in a Train...

    £540
    Bigger screen 16"
    Smaller SSD £512
    Different CPU 13th gen i5
Option to go the bigger battery 57 watt (although seems small yes)
Thinkpad E16 Gen 1 instead of ideapad idk need to check it out reviews)

Been told DDR5 is better as its more power efficient
Looked up NTSC 45%, 60% is 100% sRGB so idk not great? but not a big deal?

Thanks for the helpful points, also haven't had an issue with my 14in ideapad hinges so far, but I'm worried about how a 16in model will fare as surely there's more stress on the hinges...
Also yeah, seems like no metal lid with this. Main thing that stands out on this one is 74Wh battery which isn't available elsewhere at this price point.

I don't think it was a stress/fatigue issue and no with a larger screen not really, you still have similar leverage, the hinges are quite firm and stiff which is what causes it, rather than loose/low tension. I believe it was the hinges pulling out of their base mounts - if you think it is getting weak, I would open and check for damaged plastics internally, then strengthen it with two-part epoxy which will bond well and stop it worsening.

At this price I think I'd look at the IdeaPad 5 series as they are similarly priced.
