Fast, Efficient
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 April 2023

I edit 4K video in Premiere and RAW files in Photoshop. This chip is very good.

Granted, I upgraded from a 10 year old 4700K (oof), so to describe the performance improvement as 'noticeable' would be an understatement, but I think anyone doing similar work who's finding that their their older chip is struggling to render/run their editing software will be more than pleased with the capabilities of this chip.

Plus, it doesn't run nearly as hot as my 4700K did. I moved from an AIO to a (very large) air cooler and the temps are great!

What a monster of a processing powerReviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 March 2023
It is absolutely phenomenal, outperforms the top spec i12-intel chip
whilst taking half the consumption

I use it for Architecture practice + gaming

Shady intel draw insane power to compete with the AMD option

    yes AM5 is costly- however

you have long term future proofing
    much better power effieciency

the 13700 has no future proofing
    draws like a nuclear reactor
summer is coming so you cant even use the 13700k for heating

tldr- the 7800X3d is a MUCH better part

(for gaming) But for productivity this has SIXTEEN cores. Mad

Would anyone recommend this as an upgrade from a 12th gen i9 12900k

No way, to add some context. I upgraded after from 3rd gen to 13600k. Of course it all depends on what you do but there is barely any point spending so much for little gains between 1 gen.

My thoughts exactly. Been keeping my eyes on the i7-13700K and they've got to come down a lot more before I bite.

I want to upgrade my 9700k but that would also mean swapping out the mobo

I recently upgraded to the 13700k from a 6700k. It is noticeably faster, even in every day use. However, the 6700k was able to do everything I wanted and I'm probably shaving, at most, a couple of minutes a day waiting for things to happen slightly quicker. If I hadn't needed to upgrade, I could probably have run the 6700k for another 2 or 3 years.

The 13700k runs much hotter and uses far more power. You will need the best cooling solution you can afford if you upgrade. IMV, unless your system can't do something you need it to do, keep going with the 9700k. (edited)

I went with the i5 13600k for £299. Is this worth the extra £81 for gaming? I am upgrading from an i7 10700k. I imagine the i7 will be notably more demanding from a cooling point of view

are you overclocking? if not you can go with the non-K variant for considerably less power draw. For example, I purchased the 13700F for £330 some months ago during a brief sale as I did not wish to do any overclocking and it was fine paired with a 3080 for 1440p. (edited)
