Just in case anyone is tempted by some of the "drink" comments, this stuff is not for human consumption!

Also, if you keep this for a long time it can form peroxide crystals and those are _highly_ explosive with a hair trigger. I had a 40 year old bottle and at the bottom of it there was a 4mm square crystal and when I tipped it into a glass ashtray and poked it with a stick there was an enormous bang, an orange fireball hovering in mid-air about a foot above it and I said goodbye to about 25% of my hearing for life. The glass ashtray was made of pyrex-style glass was reduced to a pile of glass powder and several large shards of glass on my desk. Loudest noise I have ever heard.

Cool. How long do we realistically need to keep it before it becomes fun?

Amazing, equivalent alcohol to 2.5L of vodka. How is it so cheap? (Asking for a friend)
    corred1964's avatar
    Because it's not ethanol.

Isopropyl alcohol is not Ethanol......one of the things this metabolises into in the body is acetone which can cause serious organ damage ..... less dangerous than Meths but much more dangerous than ethanol which we find in drinks

Industrial alcohol is also not taxed in the same way as ethanol in drinks (edited)

If you are using this as a disinfectant or sanitiser you usually dilute it to 70% because at 99% it can evaporate before it has a chance to kill the bacteria or mould. (edited)

If you want 5 litres, other sellers have it at £16.95 per bottle (£3.39 per litre) (edited)

I bought some of this last week for removing the sticky rubbery coating from a 10-year-old speaker. I don't know why electronics manufacturers cover their products with the stuff but it always breaks down into a gooey mess.
52805353-J1TLQ.jpgIt worked extremely well and I didn't need to use much.

It also instantly cleaned the blade of a penknife that had been gummed up by the sticky tape on parcels.

I have the same issue with grips on some SLR cameras, it's great on them too and the fast evaporation reduces the risk of damage to the camera itself....generally with them a pan scrub & alcohol is enough, no knife needed

Anybody know if this cleans without leaving water stain type marks? Wondered if it would because it should evaporate quickly. I've never used it but I have a car headlining in nylon with a few marks on it I'd like to get rid of.
    corred1964's avatar
Generally it's water in other cleaning products that leaves water stain marks as there are few that are as pure alcohol as this, however it is possible that a pure alcohol could in fact lift dye from any such head lining

Great for cleaning thermal paste off CPU's and heatsinks too
    Josh99's avatar
I built quite a few PCs, I've got about a quarter left on my 1L bottom after 5 years or so, it lasts awhile lol

Use it to clean paste from cpu , gpu, motherboards, fans etc.

Some motherboards where that dirty I was pretty much pouring it on (edited)

Bear in mind that for some purposes, disinfectant especially, you want 70% alcohol with 30% deionised water. Tesco generally have it cheap in a big container so you can buy alcohol neat and suit yourself.
  9. corred1964's avatar
If you haven't tried this, if you have concerns over privacy with Amazon & many other company shipping labels, if you pour a few drops of this on the labels then the ink disappears (good hand sanitiser does the same but costs more)
    Hizzards's avatar
It's not suitable for hand sanitiser because the water content is too low

Make sure you wear gloves if you have any little cuts etc...
    anonymouse0's avatar
Why? apart from the fact that it burns a little?

Is this similar to ascetone/nail polish remover?
    Tedman's avatar
I’d say Acetone is a stronger solvent.
  12. Professor_Stealth's avatar
Would it be safe to clean uPVC doors with?
    corred1964's avatar
No reason why not, it will not damage UPVC
  13. Fadd_Lo_Lun_Mera's avatar
Make sure it is actually IPA and not acetone as quite a few sellers sell rubbish. Acetone will destroy whatever you put it on.

Can 99.99% be used direct to clean monitor and TV screens or need dilute? Thanks
    Crossbow's avatar
Might be ok for glossy screens, but would dilute for any other kind of screen in case it removes some or all of the anti-glare coating reddit.com/r/M…me/ (edited)

Perfect for cleaning glass paraphernalia that you might smoke herbs(legal) through.
    HotUKDealsHobo's avatar
And herbal vaporisers too with our Legal Prescription (it's been legal since 2018)

any good for bird poo on the car ??

I imagine it won't do the paint or wax much good.

Would this help remove battery corrosion?
    simplynes's avatar
no but white vinegar does a good job.

£5.52 per litre if given the S&S option at maximum discount.
  19. EliTeAP's avatar
Yey, needed some as my last bottle finished.

(great for cleaning surfaces with dust, prevents it building it up so quickly, unless you have an incredibly dusty house xD)

This is perfect to clean cassette and tape deck heads. Just use with cotton buds
Also great to clean up CDs and records. I use it all the time.
Would not recommend on using it on plastic.
    Tuesday-Poetry's avatar
Cds are plastic. It's fine on most plastics, wouldn't use it on an LCD screen but most hard plastics are fine

Is it any good on chains/sprockets etc?
  23. devilish's avatar
About £3.00ish a litre bottle in any large French supermarket if anyone is doing a shopping trip over the channel anytime. You'll find it in the cleaning/hardware section.

Hmm - never tried this IPA before - looks strong! (edited)

Best degreaser you'll ever have !
Cleans goo off everything, my specs get a wipe over with a microfibre damped with iso, and they are new again (doesn't harm coatings)
Lifts most glues too. (Hot melt especially)
Good on car glass - but best to avoid the rubbers.
    It has millions of uses...

Blimey I remember buying this during COVID along with aloe Vera to make hand sanitizer because it was impossible to buy it!

2 year shelf life....is that a thing. (edited)
    Crossbow's avatar
That's a strange one. I have some of this stuff left going back probably 15 years & it still works fine like the day I bought it. Was stored away in a dark cupboard, which may have helped. (edited)

I use this on the brake discs on my bike as it gets rid of any grime and evaporates almost instantly. it’s also good for cleaning whiteboards of those stubborn dye stains that won’t come off.
  35. z3r0c00l's avatar
Great for cleaning my glassware, thanks!

    Great first deal thanks.
    Ordered up and heat added.

Careful not to use on your mobile and other displays. For those 70% should be safe.
    JonCollett's avatar
Why? I've used it on glass, glasses, mirrors, mobile displays and screens for years, diluted to 60% with water. It is THE best glass and screen cleaner bar none.

Any good for cleaning a slow draining kitchen sink?

Apologies in advance, as I'm going to add to the long list of 'does it clean' questions.

Would this be suitable for cleaning stains on clothes?
    Ricotta's avatar
Depends on the stain. Alcohol is good for some pen marks. But most other stain is better with peroxide.
