I'm fairly certain Samsung are better than Huawei for OS updates - Huawei basically just don't do them on their tablets.

Huawei give two years anyway. I'd be more than happy buying from Amazon with their returns regardless.

dixonofdockbean

Hmmm, this, or this: https://www.richersounds.com/tv-projectors/qled-tv/samsung-qe49q6fn.html

sweetandsour

I hear you. Actually I was looking at this particular TV before, but I was put off by a few others saying Android is unreliable and a bad review from Richer Sound: "I bought the TV based on picture quality having seen it in a number of different stores. the picture quality is excellent...but thats where it ends.... I wish I had paid more attention to the backend operating system and usability though this is difficult in a store environment. the android system is horrible and many of the "features" simply do not work. I have spent a lot of time with sony support and the community support where I realized i am not the only one with problems and issues around android. a brief summary of issues in no particular order; 1. cant record to a usb drive - recognized and registered ok - go to record says there is no registered drive. check again on the system settings shows a registered drive. 2. remote control sometimes very very sluggish. 3. does not read mp3 or video from a usb drive. 4. sony entertainmaint says "not available in your country" - its a uk tv and i am in the uk. 5. when using googleplay you have to use voice search....which has to be trained before it will do anything. I would prefer to type my search. 6. you need to have a google account which cannot be created without a mobile phone (i did not want my mobile associated with the tv account - what do you do if you dont have a mobile?) 7. casting is intermittent. 8. no freeview play. the tv has both freeview and youview. I bought to use freeview HD and expected freeview play on there which it is not (I accept my error for not checking more carefully). which should I be using and why? there is no information or recommendation. 9. unable to set freeview channel list/favourites permanently 10. the sony account (via a browser on pc)......captcha checks very time you log into it. complete pain! knowing what I know now (after only a few days) I would not purchase this TV." That's why I changed from Samsung to Sony. To be honest, I'm lost. I don't even know how big TV I should get, people say different things!

Aretak

It's not a bad TV by any means, but you can get a Sony KD-49XF9005 for only £100 more from Richer Sounds, which wipes the floor with this one in every respect (and might even come down to this price on Black Friday). For the extra money you get a far better full-array local dimming backlight system, much higher peak brightness and Dolby Vision support, which all combine to provide a significantly better HDR experience. Plus Sony's picture processing, which is generally considered the best around (though Panasonic would be second on that list).

Waste of specs for a chromebook

ollie87

Yup, and more. I swapped my X240 for a ASUS C101 Flip (even though I'm not a big fan of ASUS). I have to say although on paper the X240 was a faster machine it can't match the lightness, the battery life, the screen quality, the trackpad, or the over build quality (yeah, I couldn't believe it either) of the Chromebook. I've used Chrome Apps, Android Apps, and Linux Applications, never experienced a slow down.

You can do all of those things.

Just an update to this so John Lewis refused to refund me on the basis that due to the risk of data still being stored on the laptop, this could be a breach of GDPR and the only way they would refund it is IF its faulty. Seething at the moment..

t0lerence

it would be difficult to give you an accurate reply here mainly as I bought this as a birthday gift for my wife and she hasn't used it enough to be able to confirm. Being realistic, I cannot see this lasting 14 hours although I would personally be happy with 7 hours. On another note, John Lewis have rejected my Price Match claim saying that they don't price match Microsoft which is a ball ache for me now so will be returning it today and will reorder from Microsft direct.

jamesturner280783

You can buy a 120gb ssd for less than £20 now yet they still sell laptops at a premium with them in over hhd. Bear in mind you only see 100gb of the drive and there just a waste of time once windows is installed. I made the mistake a few years ago of buying a 120ssd for the pc. Only run windows on it and still having to use 2 x 500gb and 1tb hhd for space

fpsazerbaijan

How are you finding the battery life? Most reviews seem to dispute Microsoft's 14 hour claims

bluecityste

I know that's what I was saying, if the book was current gen processor then I would have bit as could get student discount on some of the surface book 2 prices. No student discount at all on the surface laptop 2 though. Doh!

Kinda wanna upgrade to 2018 Apple MacBook Pro 13" Touch Bar, Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD.. Anyone know a fair price I could get for my MacBook Pro Core i5 2.9GHz 13" (Early 2015) 512GB SSD? Apple offered me £240.. rather keep it some on Gumtree around £500/£650? lol

HaroFreestyler

I get your point, but we all have freedom to choose. I choose Apple as it's perfect for what I want to do with it and makes my life easier in terms of getting my work done. I could go back to Windows, Android or whatever else but my life would be negatively impacted as my time would be hit if I did so I'm happy to stick with Apple. Plus they are not that expensive, as I said before my whole Apple setup with ipads, phones and Mac cost me less than my original PC setup from 2003. :) I really wouldn't save much money by moving back to Windows/non Apple stuff. Looking back to my PC days, I'm amazed how much time I wasted fixing Windows issues. And I'm no noob, my last system was fully built from the ground up with parts I bought and specced myself and whilst the system itself was really good cos I built it properly, all of the third party software I used for work was a pain and trying to get everything working together was difficult. I wouldn't say Apple has any sort of monopoly though unless you're saying they have a monopoly on somebody wanting a Mac or an iPhone??? A monopoly would mean only Apple sells computers or phones but we all know that isn't the case.

MiL0

Well you've just described exactly why I'm calling it a negative. Loving something and not wanting to use anything else is different from loving something and not being ABLE to choose something else. The problem with Apple is that they make great products, but charge a lot of money for that quality. My sympathy is for those people who can't afford to buy apple stuff but also hate using non-apple stuff. At least with competing operating systems / hardware, you can choose a different manufacturer if you don't like the way your usual choice of company is doing things. That's the price you pay when you lock into Apples monopoly. It is a negative, but fair play if you don't mind.
