Could be worth swapping out to an i3 1315u for an extra £20 you get 30% more performance thanks to an extra performance core.

Alternatively, you could go for the U300 chip which is £70 less than the 1305u with similar performance.

I would take the 1315U for the reasons you said, yes. The U300 is very power efficient but is all E cores, no P cores - great chip for micro PCs and cheap laptops though.

Made a mistake there - U300 is not all E cores, it's 1P+4E, I was thinking of the N300 which is 8E only. So actually, the U300 might be a good choice for best value as it's not far off the i3. (edited)

Ideal price and specs for a budget unit. However the screen is too big at 15.6 inches! And please I don’t want anyone to scold me for insisting that laptops should be 13 inches or less for portability. How do you carry around a giant laptop like this??? This laptop is too big at 15.6!!!
If you want a bigger screen, get a desktop or second screen for extension!! How else are you meant to carry this huge door stopping, lead heavy laptop around and navigate trains and airports????

This is not scolding you, but 15.6" is the standard size of any laptop in the market. Most backpacks or laptop bags can easily fit 14" - 16" laptops so, this should not be a problem at all. (edited)

Nice for the money but not biting as charging port is not USB-C (edited)

Get the Slim 5 as that can USB C charge.

Looks like a decent spec for the price, just check the options to get exactlywhat you want, nice to be able to not pay £70+ for Windows when you can probably use some old Win 7 key to get W10 or 11

whats the battery life like on this?

I've got the same model with the Ryzen 3 7330u + backlit keyboard. My CPU uses a little less power but I use the keyboard light all the time and I get about 7 hrs. I think you should get at least 5 hrs with the offered CPU.

How would you install an OS? I understand not having MS office but how would you purchase an OS?!
    jamesmherbert's avatar
Just make a USB install drive on the Microsoft website. Takes like 5mins.
