I've owned both the Master 2S and Master 3 for quite a while now, and I'm pleased to report that both are still performing flawlessly.
When it comes to design, I find myself more drawn to the Master 3 due to its improved layout of thumb buttons and overall shape.

It's important to note that the scrolling wheel on the Master 2S is crafted from a soft plastic material, which unfortunately tends to deteriorate and lose its original shape over time. This is something to keep in mind while considering your options.

I've been using an MX Master 3 for my daily use (work and video/photo editing) for about 3 years now. Very comfortable and amazingly programmable by applications. I paid £99 for the 3 but other than the scroll wheel, I don't think there's much difference. Great price

Back/forward buttons tiny and placed too far back, you have to strain your thumb to reach them and you may press both accidentaly, terrible design.

Like others, I too bought this for £39.99 a few weeks back (prime day maybe). Brilliant mouse, took me a day or two to get used to the new posture. Feels very premium. The ability to customise the buttons and gestures for the OS as a whole and for individual apps is very slick.
The only thing I would criticise, as StephenW alluded to above, I hate the thumb buttons layout. It’s a silly design for fat thumbs which they clearly recognised and corrected in the 3/3s. But they’re overpriced given the value of the 2s at £40. I would skip on this at £53 though - just leave it in your basket.

Always on offer on Amazon for sub £40. Unless desperate would wait until it comes back down again

Bought one a year ago when it was around this price. Hated it. The back/forward button and side scroll wheel placement is a deal-breaker for me. The Master 3 seems much better but I went with a G502 wireless instead for a tiny bit more.

Can anyone recommend a decent wired USB mouse that isn't overpriced? It's main use would be for general Web browsing, video and photo editing. Thanks.

3s user here. Bought it for cad style work and to be able to program most used keyboard shortcuts.
The mouse is very nice to hold and has some weight to it.
The scroll wheel seems like you can scroll it at mach 1 which is good for some applications.
I like that you can program different buttons per application but I have noticed some of them dont work, I use Ekahau and the programmed keys have just stopped working but work as they should in other applications on windows.
The thing I was most impressed about is the noise, or lack of. Great for being on calls and being able to still look at things without "click" click" off the buttons.
All round I am glad I bought it, paired with the MX keyboard they look great together.
