when you purchase a car, purchase with the price and 5-10 years worth of maintenance in mind

obviously you have your big three - lexus, honda, toyota which dominate in reliability, quality control - this is where you want to be if you know your cars

but mazda isn't too far behind - I'd place mazda with kia/hyundai and suburu as upper mid tier cars- definitely a good little car

mid tier is a merrcedes- definitely the best german made cars- they are solid, but they have 100 different sensors that will eventually fail and cost a fortune to fix. if you want an upmarket status badge, it has to be a merc

then you have your lower tier BMW, audi/VAG - these are money sink hole cars, planned obselesce, the minute the warranty runs out- these cars are ticking timebombs- which is why they never hold their value. they are nightmares to work on- no mechanic ever wants to work on an audi- they are the worst

low tier you have your mini, any french car/ nissan- these are cars usually to be avoided.

and then at the absolute bottom is anything ever made in Italy

Mazda have the most premium interiors without paying German premium car prices in terms of design, leather and minimalism. Very solid, beautiful styling, lovely metallic colours, most features are standard, it’s very reliable and the aspirated engines are distinct in the car market. Driving precision is like a BMW, great corner / bend handling with robust feel and most importantly fun to drive. I love the fact the infotainment isn’t touch screen but a BMW style dial as they do cause huge distractions and accidents. Also, not many on the road as the company don’t spend loads on marketing so you will stand out a little. Overall, the fact German cars are mentioned in the same breadth says a lot and that’s not just my opinion.

German premium interiors died over 20 years ago. They are atrocious, having compared interiors at the british motorshow, the bmw was terrible and the new EQ all that squishy squeaky plastic and the awful painted silver trims.

The Honda interiors on the other hand was a class above the rest, everything from the feel if door handles, weight of doors, the built the feel of the knobs was something else. There was no Mazda to test but i would bet they are not as good as the Honda. The Subaru's were lovely too and with the Germans the A7 had the better compared to.merc and bm.

Comparing Mazda to Germans is not fair. Mazda has always done its own style of handling and driving fun, not same as BMW and its quality must be compared to Lexus who are the king of material quality and build quality and the Mazda doesn't compare yet.

Has anyone tried to get mazda main dealer to match deals like this?

Go to Carwow is my advice. Several dealers will bid for your business and you take the lowers price.

Cold from me as it’s not an EV
    fishmaster's avatar
Can you link to a new EV for £20K though? Not Citroen Ami! that is a little clown car with awful Citroen customer service. A new EV that compares to the features of this car for £20K.

Seems like a v good price. Second hand nearly-new going for higher according to Auto Express.

This or the 2018 low mileage Audi S4 I have my eye on??

3L V6 Tiptronic Quattro Audi with 354PS or a 2L Mazda? Hmm, well obviously the Audi but keep at least £3K back for any repairs that might crop up or get a decent warranty as the Audi will definitely break and cost you.

Also the Audi won't have any safety toys like Adaptive Cruise or Blind Spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, because they either don't offer them or they are an option that no one bothers to add. (edited)

A car with a suitable engine
  11. AverageBloke's avatar
This engine seems very underpowered for a 2.0L, economy at the expense of performance I suppose? However, nice to see that we don't all want or need an EV.
    Sandmannn's avatar
No turbo obviously, but economical. My previous car was a Mazda and it was petrol but the economy of a diesel. Loved it.

I used to own a Mazda 3 with a 2.0L engine back in 2010. I found the performance of the engine is okay but not too impressive. Later I changed to an Audi with 1.8 turbo engine and I found it a lot better.

I detest leasing, but you’re better off. Plus 3yrs warranty is dire.

Alfa Romeo overtook Lexus in the summer so not sure what that chart is all about or what source is being used but it is out of date. Alfa Romeo take top spot.
