EVs aren't my cup of tea but if I had to buy an MG ZS EV, I would probably buy a low mileage 2021 model & let some other poor shmuck eat the eye-watering depreciation loss you'll see from new with these vehicles.

Here's the first example I found on Auto Trader. £15,299 with 6,475 miles on the clock....

The older 21 models were sold brand new for around £20-21k, they never sold for RRP back then as they were alwsys discounted and the governement used to also chuck in a discount, I know someone who bought one.

Where's all the extra electricity coming from?

I think we can actually have too much electric overnight so if you charge it then you're actualy helping balance the national grid which means they don't need to keep turning generators off and on. As such they let you have it for 7.5p/kW through tariffs like Octpus Go off peak. Not sure there's actually a shortage of electric it's more the balancing of demand and getting it to the right places that's trickier but not impossible.

until they really improve the rollout of electicification throughout the uk which will take decades this is a non starter like all ev vehicles

You're entitled to your own opinion, it's wrong, but you are entitled to it.

Even in the land of the sheep, electric cars are fine... I know as I have one.

Is this the 270 range model? If so, this is a cracking price for those who are seriously looking into EV models.

    Not at 51kwh it isn't. 190miles.

Couple of things about this deal. This battery 51kwh is using a new technology lpa or Lifepo4. The long range or 40kwh can only be charged to 20-80% and real evdrydayl range is much less. This can be charge everyday to 100%. Degradation on this batteries are on line not like old where is massive degradation after 5-7-10 or cykles.. This batteries compare with old one can be cycled around 5 times more. The second thing is that there batteries can't catch Fire and ta made them you don't need kobalt And other rare minerals. Most new car manufacturers will use new batteries in new models but they have no fabric and technology ( ford is finishing a new mega battery factory in US), tesla is using this batteries in China and will switch to this

Year one depreciation on EVs is terrible lately. Used prices are pretty much at parity with petrol equivalents where they are cross platform, despite often having retail prices £10k more when new. There's a strong argument in favour of buying a low mileage one year old vehicle if you must have an EV. The price parity really makes the cost to run savings worthwhile.

That's always been the case, has nothing to do with EV cars.

Anyone remember This deal from couple years ago, Well I went for one that was linked from this with Vanarama, Ordered 25TH November 21 and it turned up March 23.

So after 4 months what's it like, It's OK, But you have to take into consideration that I got it cheap back then, 10,000 miles a year, Free charger,Free first year insurance and £250 cashback on one of then cards, 3 months upfront and only £260 a month over 3 years.

It's quick off the line, Go's round corners like a boat but it's comfortable, We had the base model that still has every bit of tech you could want from lane keep to 360 degree camera, We have the Long range and on a warm day got all the way from the east Kent to Sheffield on a single charge.

So do you save money going electric, I would say yes, A lot, We swap between this and our old reliable 09 plate Focus Auto, Whoever is driving the most on any given day takes the MG, We charge it to 100% every Saturday and that's it, Never realized how much fuel I used sitting in traffic or just the short run around 3 mile journeys you do with the kids clubs and what not, If you do a lot of small run around stuff, Electric all the way, You will save a fortune.

Considering my 1.5l petrol car costs less than £1200 per 10,000 miles in petrol and most of that is tax (that pays for too much of the UKs public infrastructure)and the average mileage per year in the UK is less than 8,000 miles. Many people will be lucky to recoup the upfront cost.

i have the Excite version of this, and dont regret it for one second. The facelift model is a very different setup to the 1st Gen. As previously mentioned, different batteries (which CAN be switched out - heads up new ones being developed in China will be compatible: thats the point of this new model being more versitile). Agree with cornering / speed (Sports mode and it takes off like a rocket, but pointless once at 50 mph+, so drop to eco once you're off the mark and you're golden). Comfort: very, but... there are some indicators where they skimped. Look under front seats, pretty cardboard-esque. Passenger footwell: ditto. Thin metal: but sold door closing, wafer thin parcel shelf (put ANY weight on it and it will break). Front LEDs are stunningly bright, facelift touchscreen a huge improvement on last model (but cant be hacked yet for video override functions etc). its a joy to drive, simple to park and gets decent range but.... beware.... I did a 20 mile M3 and chewed up equivalent of 50miles battery! as soon as you go aboive 55mph the battery drains, and 70+ its near 2x mile loss per 1x mile driven. WAZE isnt setup for EV (in UK) yet, but google maps is, so recommend using that.

if you change , get a kia , i do 15 miles to work and it only uses 12 miles, easily cruise at 65 to 70 on the motorway with no significant range loss, 3.7 miles per kw is the usual and getting near 5 miles per kw during the summer, 3.5 in the winter.
