sorted byAlso it only uses 4x PCIe lanes, which is just about enough for it on a gen4 board, but will perform worse on a gen3.
Be very aware of this if you're on a 10th gen or lower Intel chip, or an AMD Ryzen before the 3000 series on anything less than a b500 board (and even then, some like the 5600g are PCI 3.0).
This is not the budget friendly cheap upgrade for an old system, it's just ... a bad card all around.
Yes, it's a weak card, but makes sense at £99 for some use cases. Same/better performance as a GTX1650 and cheaper. No external power needed and really quiet at idle. I needed a displayport output: I don't game much but wanted something better than an iGPU to pair with my i5 12500 (crucially, this has PCIE 4.0). I also have a small ITX case with limited ventilation. This replaced a GT1030 and has been a significant upgrade. Plays my library of older Steam titles and recent Epic Games freebies (Death Stranding, GTA V, Car Mechanic Simulator) rather well, even at 1440p. Doesn't have a video encoder, but as my i5 has the iGPU I can use Quicksync.
RX6500XT is only a little dearer, but considerably less power efficient, so concluded the extra performance wasn't worth it.
If you take your gaming seriously definitely buy something better if you can afford it.
Good video here showing it beats even the best integrated graphics.
Getting a new GPU with modern architecture for just a 100 quid is a great deal for a casual gamer.
Get a 6600M or 5700XT (with 5700 non-XT specs) for very little more, and downclock and undervolt if you need to lower power use. Bigger chips are ALWAYS more power efficient when clocks and voltage is pushed down.
